JMA marks 40th year with first day of school event John Milledge Academy marked the first day of school back on Sept. 8, 1971 as part of the school’s year-long 40th anniversary celebration. Every class went to the football field the morning of Sept. 8 and formed a giant 40 on the field. After taking pictures, every student was given a cupcake to enjoy before heading back to class. More than 500 cupcakes were given out and were supplied by some very willing parents. Elementary kids and faculty formed the 4 and middle school and high school students and faculty formed the 0.
