Georgia Military College High School held a Change of Command Ceremony for the 2nd Battalion at the end of the school year. This ceremony is a time-honored tradition which formally symbolizes the continuity of authority as the command is passed from one individual to another, depicted by physically passing the Battalion guidon. c/LTC Rem Tolentino assumed command of the 2nd Battalion, 133rd Regiment and will serve as the 2011-2012 Battalion Commander. The outgoing commander was c/LTC Sean Tighe.

GMC’s Josh Brown attends American Legion Boys State Joshua Brown was selected as a Delegate from Georgia Military College High School and the city of Milledgeville to participate in American Legion Boys State for 2011. American Legion Boys State, founded in 1935, is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. highschool students. Georgia Boys State is a comprehensive one-week course in state and local government. It is a “leadership action program” where delegates take part in a practical government course. It is designed to develop a working

knowledge of the structure of government and to impress upon the citizen the fact that our government is just what we make it. Along the way delegates have the opportunity to learn the political process by organizing a mythical 51st state. Each level of government is run by those delegates who are elected to serve. Instruction is presented on the law and court system, parliamentary procedure and Georgia political history. The program is conducted on the campus of Georgia Southern University in June.

JMA fifth-graders walk away with the gold

Pictured: Dane Pinney, Nathan Tyson, Tyler Gray, and Caleb Fields; Ashley Brady, Gracie Mitcham, and Logan Freeman. As a culminating activity for Mrs. Carla Bentley's American History classes, the students participated in a Quiz Bowl the last five days of school. Each homeroom was randomly divided into teams two weeks before the games were set to begin and given American History questions filled with information taught in the class throughout the year. The children were allowed study time at school, but were also encouraged to study at home if they were going for the gold. Sometimes the competition was tight with scores only one point apart or even tie breakers being necessary. Overall, the Quiz Bowl built excitement about history, especially as the championship got closer, and most importantly the students found out that they really do remember what they learn at school. Congrats to the winners, Mrs. Anne Herko's homeroom: Ashley Brady, Gracie Mitcham and Logan Freeman. Mrs. Bentley's homeroom: Dane Pinney, Nathan Tyson, Tyler Gray and Caleb Fields. Milledgeville’s
