Baldwin High student elected state FBLA VP Chrissy Skinner, a sophomore at Baldwin High School, was elected Membership Vice President for Georgia Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), at their annual state leadership conference in Atlanta on March 14. Skinner has been an FBLA member since sixth grade when she helped reactivate the Oak Hill FBLA Chapter. In addition to her current position, she has served as FBLA state middle level president, FBLA Region V reporter, and FBLA Region XII President. In honor of her efforts and involvement with FBLA, Skinner was also named to Who’s Who in FBLA. Georgia FBLA has more than 25,000 members and has been the largest FBLA state chapter for the past 12 years. Over 90 percent of Georgia public high schools have active FBLA chapters. Georgia FBLA offers leadership training to more than 10,000 members through its conferences each year. FBLA members perform thousands of hours of community service in their local communities each year.

Eagle Ridge students get feathered visitors Kierra Colquitt’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Waller, brought chicken to Ms. Watson’s second grade class at Eagle Ridge Elementary. Mr. Waller shared his chickens with the students because they have been studying the life cycles of different animals. Ms. Watson’s children enjoyed learning about the chickens.

GMC students write to top physicists

Maj. Clay McElheny’s senior physics class recently wrote letters to some of the top physicists in the world. They wrote to them on the basis of their research and any advice concerning new physics students going to college. Stay tuned to see if they receive any word back from their letters.

At the National Beta Club Georgia Convention, the JMA Senior Beta Club received recognition as the 2013-14 Georgia runner-up for the Philanthropy Contest for the second most monetary donations to the American Cancer Society last year. The club set a goal to be the first in the state for philanthropic donations this year.
