her run at the LPGA Tour Qualifying School. Each year the LPGA holds 2 qualifying and final tournaments to determine the top players for tournament play for the next year.

As one of the last two finalists for the competition for the $100,000 first prize, Blair was matched up against Dereck Gillespie, and showed us all that beauty, brains and brawn can be contained in a small yet fashionably powerful package.

So we asked Blair after her recent UNIQ Lifestyles Magazine photo shoot at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona to let us in on her game plan of becoming apart of the LPGA and her modeling.

Though Gillespie walked away with the Big Break title and prize money, Blair is well on her way to becoming a household name both on and off the course. In 2008, she was named by Sports Illustrated, as “One of the Hottest 50 Athletes of All-Time.” In the “World’s Hottest Athlete” contest by InGameNow.com, she was in their final four, and featured in Maxim. com’s “Girl of the Day”. She can be found modeling on runways, print ads, catalogs, magazine covers, websites and commercial advertisements all over the U.S. and Asia. As a professional athlete with the grace and poise to garner the covers of fashion and sporting magazines regularly; Blair has gained a reputation on the links for her flair for golf attire and an ability to be focused, and determined while remaining approachable during competition. This focus and determination is going to be put to the test this fall when she begins

took a few years off of golf for a break and was able to concentrate on my pursuit of modeling and acting. ULM: But the call of the Green was too tempting? Blair: That and the opportunity to participate in the “Big Break”, gave me that kick in the butt to embrace my love of the game and the competition.

ULM: Where can we keep track of your progress? Blair: My website is a great place to start www.blairgolf.com. You can also see me on the Golf Channel’s website’s premiere episode of “Infuze My Game”. I am also participating in the Cactus Tour in Arizona this fall. We at UNIQ Lifestyles look forward to the rise of Blair’s celebrity on both the fairway and the runway.

ULM: Golfing or Modeling, which came first? Blair: Golf. I began playing in my early teens. I played through high school and college; going Pro in 2004. Modeling came after college [ASU]. ULM: You always look great on and off the course. How has modeling helped you work to towards your professional golfing goals? Blair: Modeling has helped me pay the entry fees and traveling costs of tournaments I play in. Golfing is the “Game of Kings”. Tournaments and qualifiers are pricier than a regular round of golf. So the exposure I have received helps with gaining sponsors and I recently was signed by Gaylord Sports Management. To be represented by the same group whose roster of players includes Phil Mickelson and Angela Stanford is a fantastic stepping stone. ULM: So how do you balance your careers? Blair: Well, it can be a challenge, but I

UNIQ Lifestyles had a chance to speak to Jessica recently after a long day of filming on the set of Melrose Place. Hard at work post ‘Rock of Love’ is evident and this rising star is someone we will be keeping in touch with as she moves up the celebrity ladder. ULM: How do you like California? J: I love it. The opportunities are endless and it is only a short drive from my family in Arizona. ULM: Speaking of your family, how are they handling the transition? J: They are great. I have their complete support. I love going home to them; we are very close knit family. ULM: What is on your plate at the moment? More reality TV? Movies? J: Things are just really falling into place. I am working a lot. I just recent finished a movie with Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau that kept me laughing and taught me a lot about the filming processes. The guys were great. I just signed with the fabulous modeling agency CESD out here [California]. I am also participating in a Reality Show shoe line by Sheikh Shoes that will be out this Fall. My design is a little ankle boot.

ULM: Is there history with you and Phoenix Fashion Week? Did you participate this year? J: I actually participated in the 1st Phoenix Fashion Week 5 years ago. This year I will be participated in the celebrity ‘Fashionably Pink Fashion Show’ supporting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer foundation.

ULM: Fashion aside. Acting is where you are really focusing on right now. If you could play any character who would it be? J: This is kind of funny, but with my background it makes since. I would have loved to have had played Elizabeth Shue’s role of the physicist in The Saint with Val Kilmer. Throughout high school and college (BS Physiological Science class of 2004 U of A) I have been kind of a science geek. ULM: Any leading men you would like to be cast with? J: Well, back to the science fixation. Grey’s Anatomy would be a close call between McDreamy and McSteamy, with McDreamy winning….Patrick Dempsey will always have a place in my teenage heart. ULM: Bumming it or Glammed Up, what is your choice? J: Even though I like to get all dolled up, with my work schedule I find when I am not working, I love “Bumming it”, UGG boots, no make up and a ponytail is a wonderful thing.

The harmony of contemporary architecture, spectacular Camelback Mountain views and a backyard that can rival a resort is what you will experience living in this home in Paradise Valley, Arizona. 32 | SPEC IAL EDITION

Mahsa Jaeger, former owner of the Mahsa Boutiques in Kierland Commons, and the Scottsdale Waterfront has stylishly furnished this recently remodeled gem to perfection. Even before entering the home, the whitewashed façade is reminiscent of a modernist’s interpretation of the cliff houses of the isle of Capri. This gated estate, with its sweeping lines sits on roughly 1.8 acres. In addition to its palatial master suite it boasts, 4 additional bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, and a 1,250 square foot guest house. The interior is furnished with warmth that usually isn’t associated with contemporary furnishings. Rich browns, creams with punches of crimson red, lead your eye to the various architectural nuances in the great room and the adjoining gourmet kitchen and game room. The custom lighting throughout the house conjures up images of Guggenheim installations. The beautifully sunlit sitting area is decorated with red couches dividing the center of the expansive room with the entrances flanked by contrasting canary yellow chaises. The large expanse of floor to ceiling windows brings the outdoors in for you to enjoy. Once you exit the contemporary elegance of the main living space, you enter a lush desert oasis. Columns stand over the tropical, entertainment ready pool at the back of the home. Any pool soiree can accommodate a healthy guest list with plenty of cabana and lounge style seating just steps away from the fully appointed wet bar. This home is a treasure trove of extras: home gym, fully appointed guest suite, office, sports court ready for tennis and basketball, a built in salt water aquarium, and many more.

To Work Out or Not to Work Out…. That is the Question Daily we hear statements like, “Every 33 seconds an American dies of cardiovascular disease” or “more than 62% of Americans are considered obese.” These statements may stir up urgency in many people, as they should, to try to avoid the pain, suffering and disease caused by obesity. Losing weight and getting fit can be the struggle of your lifetime. The need to change your lifestyle by eating healthier and exercising more can be difficult, but not impossible. Undeniably, it is true; the “Time to Exercise” is now. “What time is the best time to exercise?” The answer to that question is, “the time when you are most likely to follow through and do the activity or exercise”. Notice, I added the word, “activity.” The word “exercise” can have a negative connotation to some. You may immediately think of pain, tiredness, embarrassment, etc. Those are the types of exercises you don’t want to be doing, the ones that you don’t like. Instead, find activities that burn more calories, cause you to increase your heart rate, breathe harder and break a sweat! Try fun activities like, bike riding, inline skating or swimming. Whatever you would enjoy doing the most. Maybe it’s just walking. That’s great! Our bodies were designed to walk. You can socialize with a friend while you walk or listen to music and books on tape (health, fitness and weight loss topics would be very helpful to keep you on track). Many communities have built trails for such

activities and can provide a new path for your activity/exercise endeavors. “How much time should I exercise for?” This answer depends on many factors. You need to consider your current health status and fitness level. Always check with your physician before beginning an exercise program and follow his/her recommendations. Your current fitness level may only allow you to walk for 10 minutes to start. That’s a start. You can gradually add more time to your program as you become able and work your self up to 30 minutes or more a day. Just do it (as Nike says). Get yourself into the habit of taking the time for your self and just do it. It takes about 21 times to establish a pattern or habit, so you may have to force yourself in the beginning. After the habit is established, the habit will remind you every day to just do it. Once you begin to experience the benefits that exercise is providing, it will become a more desired, looked forward to time of your day. Look for benefits like; weight loss, feeling of well being, clearer thinking and better sleep. Not to mention; improved immunity, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and eventual lessening of needed medications.

“I just don’t have any time to exercise.” Many people think they just don’t have any time in their daily schedule to devote to personal exercise. I say, “Where there is a will, there is a way!”

You must find the time! Try to find at least 30 minutes a day. I used to take my lunch to a park near my workplace and walk during my lunch time. I would eat my lunch while driving to and from the park. Can you stop by the park on your way home from work? Can you get up 30 minutes earlier in the morning to exercise then? If the weather is bad, could you walk around the indoor mall, walk the perimeter of the grocery store (before you pick up the milk and bread), or invest in a treadmill or recumbent stationary bike? I have a recumbent stationary bike in my living room that I use while I watch TV with my family. I can also work my upper body with weights at the same time! There is something about being able to stay in the same room as my family is in that encourages me to “just do it!” Buzz up!

UNIQ Body Value

the euro melt If craving pickles and ice cream could melt off the pounds, wouldn’t you try? Well all cravings aside, the premise of the HCG protocol is pretty close! Europeans have been using HCG pregnancy hormone as a weight loss method to fight obesity for many years, a method that is quickly gaining popularity in the United States. UNIQ Lifestyles Magazine met with Photographer, Paul Sebring of Sebring Photography of Tempe, AZ who recently began the protocol. 36 | SPEC IAL EDITION

I used to be one of the statistics* but I have taken control of my life using HCG. My name is Paul Sebring and I used to weigh 370lbs. For years I had been gaining weight at a consistent rate and really didn’t pay much attention to it. After learning about a hereditary thyroid problem I had, I got on medication that stopped the weight gain. Unfortunately that’s all it did. I tried to lose weight through the fad diets and the various crash diets but nothing seemed to keep off the weight. I tried working out but at 370lbs you can imagine the strain it puts on your lower back and knees. After a while started to give up hope and was going to just have to accept the fact that I would always weigh 370lbs. Then, while on a magazine assignment I met a woman that had lost 35lbs through HCG. She told me all about the HCG protocol, the effects it had on her life and she even told me how to not gain the weight back once I went off of it. As you can imagine I went home and researched HCG until my eyes bled from staring at the computer for too long. Here’s what I found:

In 1954, Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, a British doctor, discovered the use of HCG for weight loss HCG is a natural component in men and women HCG is not FDA approved for weight loss There have been no reported side effects With that in mind I spoke with a close friend of mine, Darla Zavacky, HCG counselor at Kalologie Med Spa in Mesa, AZ. This naturally occurring substance partnered with a whole foods low calorie diet, averages weight loss of about ½ lb.-2lbs. a day, with virtually no

exercise. What’s the catch? You can only eat 500 calories a day! “HCG only targets abnormal fat, fat not helping the body, says Zavacky, “it would only be unhealthy if it were targeting necessary fat,”. Studies have shown that an extreme low calorie diet (or starvation) would target your muscles first and then work its way out eating your unnecessary fat last. The theory is that HCG reverses that effect, eating away at all your stored fat first and therefore also reducing your hunger. “Between 80% and 85% of our patients lose and keep the weight off,” says Zavacky.

more than 72 million people— and 16% of U.S. children are obese; adding to the risk of major medical problems. (cdc.gov/nchs)

Along with success comes a little controversy. HCG is not FDA approved for weight loss. In an interview with ABC Channel 4 News Salt Lake City, Dr. Mark Gibson, chief endocrinologist at the University of Utah’s Center for Reproductive Medicine, claims the reason it is not FDA approved is because it “doesn’t work.” There are claims that patients lose weight due to a “placebo” effect. None the less, the percentage of success stories cannot be overlooked.

With all this information at hand I decided do one round of the HCG protocol and see how much I could lose. First things first though, I would have to accept my fear of needles, especially since I would be injecting myself daily into my abdomen. Once I was mentally at that state I started my diet. Here’s a summary of what happened to me over the next 28 days. Day’s 1 and 2 were my loading days. I ate a little more than normal but not too bad. Day 3 I started the 500 calories a day. It was easier than I thought. Day 4, now that was a hard one. All I wanted to do was cheat on the diet but I broke through that wall. Day 5 thru 28 were smooth sailing after that. My hunger and sugar cravings are gone. I never had a headache, fatigue, mental fuzziness or any other kind of ill feelings. On the contrary, I felt amazing and had no fatigue because fat is an amazing source of energy. After the 28 days I came off of the HCG Protocol weighing 50 lbs less than I did before. It’s been 7 weeks since my experience and I’ve kept the weight off. My eating habits have changed quite a bit and I take my diet allot more serious than before. I’m going to do a second round of HCG here shortly so I’ll keep you posted.

People watching not only makes for great entertainment but can also be educational. While researching this topic we found ourselves at our local watering hole and in order to give the same ‘Apples and Oranges’ comparisons for body shapes and suggestions on how to dress, we put our findings into a more practical comparison. So ladies, why be called “pear shaped”, when you can be seen as a chardonnay glass, and men, doesn’t it sound better to referred to as pilsner rather than a boring old ‘Y’? Matching our favorite libations stem/barware to the content of our research was not only entertaining but it was also pretty accurate, allot more practical, and at 7pm, after a long day in the office, it just makes 38 | SPEC IAL EDITION

it more interesting to write about. Hope you find this information as enlightening, helpful and, well, entertaining too. Both men and women struggle with physical and perceived assets and faults. We have taken the commonly known body types for both sexes and created the following chart. If you don’t want take it on your next shopping trip feel free to make it into a bar game for happy hour. We chose wine and cocktails glasses for the ladies and beer glasses for the men. Sure, it’s a little sexist and we know that, but hey it makes for a great comparison. So off we go.

There are typically four different body types for women. Round, we’ll call that the red wine glass. Pear shape, it’s more like the dessert wine glass. Rectangular or straight, that’s the sparkling wine glass. Finally, hourglass, and I think this shape speaks for itself, but keep in mind there is no glass that accurately describes that shape so we’ve opted for a fancy wine bottle. Now this is not to say that the hourglass shape is any more appealing than the others, we’re just saying that it’s different, and like all the others, different clothing is best suited for each type.

Dessert Wine glass:

The dessert wine glass is typically smaller to direct the wine to the back of the mouth so that the sweetness doesn’t overwhelm. So, dressing a sweet dessert wine glass shape involves balancing narrow shoulders, a slender neck, and a small bust with a shapely waist, generous hips, and full thighs. It is best to highlight your stunning waistline, shoulders, and arms. We wouldn’t want to inundate the public with all that sweetness, now would we?

style pants as they will help to flatter muscular legs. That, and A-line skirt with a dropped waist will help to keep a slender look while adding those remarkable curves to your frame.

Bottoms:

Fancy Wine bottle: Like wine bottles from generations ago, this body type is considered to be curvy but proportional. Hourglass figures have well defined waists, hips, and shoulders. Most women desire to have this gorgeous body type and even though there are plenty of clothing options to choose from, there are still some things to look out for.

Avoid high waisted, baggy jeans and skirts. Instead, go for low-rise items. Focus the attention on your defined waist with wide-legged pants in darker colors.

Red Wine Glass:

Tops:

The red wine glass’s bowl is fuller and rounder just as the top portion of this body type, which means the upper body is visibly larger than the lower body. A Red Wine glass body type tends to have a full bust, waist, upper back; broad shoulders and usually has a set of legs to die for! Just as the fuller glass allows the wine connoisseur to detect the sweet aromas of a fine wine, let you clothing show how beautifully enticing you can be.

Draw attention to your narrow shoulders by wearing wide necklines like boat, scoop, or square necks. Sleeveless or strapless tops and dresses are always flattering and remember to look for tailored or semifitted tops that accentuate the waist.

Bottoms: Show your legs! A-line skirts can help to add emphasis to your waistline, avoid slim fitting skirts, as this will exaggerate your larger top and slimmer lower body. Hip hugging jeans with pockets on the front and back will show case those beautiful curves while camouflaging a rounder middle area. It’s best to avoid skinny pants unless they are worn with a longer tunic style top.

Tops: Wearing boat necks, turtlenecks, v-necks, collared shirts, empire waist shirts, and tunics that fall around the waist will help reveal your best features. Try to avoid baggy tops or sleeve types that are puffy.

Sparkling Wine glass: The sparkling wine glass has a narrower opening at the mouth which helps the bubbles last longer than any other wine glass. Just like this glass, women with this body type usually have an equal upper half and bottom half and their frames are normally pretty small. While the sparkling wine glass body type is spectacular, the goal in dressing is to create some sexy curves. Just as the glass suggests you are upright and narrow so that you may retain that fire you’ll feel when you’ve dressed to impress!

Bottoms: Pants with belts, pleats, or embellishments around the hips aren’t very flattering as they broaden the lower half of your body. Also, don’t wear pants with cuffs since your legs will appear shorter. Instead you should be wearing boot cut and wider-legged

Tops: To help add curves to your upper body, choose flowy blouse tops to help soften your shoulders and arms. If you want give the appearance of a curvier, more slender waist, choose tops that cinch at the waist.

Bottoms: Choose bottoms that will show off your small waist by dressing in pants that have defined waistlines, waistbands or belts. Wide legged and straight pants as well as pleats and darts will show off those sexy curves. Finally, there aren’t any skirts that are off limits with an hourglass body type, but keep in mind, a high-waisted fitted pencil skirt will really highlight your best features.

Tops: The secret when choosing tops for an hourglass body is to focus the attention to your waist. Wrap tops or dresses that tie right at your waist will emphasize and flatter your body.

Now men, we haven’t forgotten about you. We know that you may act all rough and macho but we’re pretty sure you have dressing angst too. Let’s not beat around the bush, nobody’s perfect. But if chosen well, the right clothes

can hide the features you can’t change and accentuate your best ones. Here are a few fashion rules to live by when dressing for your body type. Of course there are exceptions to rules, but keep these tips in mind when you decide you want throw something on for a night out on the town, or if you’ve decided to redo your entire wardrobe.

UNIQ Body Value

Let’s start with the ladies.

The Beer Yard: How’s the weather up there? The beer yard symbolizes the really tall men in our lives. Fellas, you need to stay away from vertical stripes, pinstripes to, since they tend to accentuate height. Rather, go for the horizontal stripes and windowpane plaids as they are more flattering patterns. You’re going to look great in slightly fitted shirts with spread collars and straight leg trousers. Just make sure your pants are never tapered in any way.

The Pilsner: Do you feel vertically challenged? If so, “forgettaboutit” because this is an easy fix. All you have to do is avoid cuffed trousers, long suit jackets, and loud patterns. Instead, go for the dark solid colors, simple pinstripes, and maybe even a subtle stripe pattern in your shirt. This is your best bet since these options visually lengthen the body.

The Keg: Do you have junk in the trunk? If so than all you heavyset men shouldn’t wear bold patterns of any sort. Pinstripes and solid colors, especially dark ones, are your friends. Some say that suspenders are better than belts, but I’ll let you decide. So whether you take heed to these suggestions, or tuck this little nugget away for a night out with friends for a conversation starter, your body type can work for you just like finding the right vintage or brew.

Bring iTunes Music To Life A Miami company has developed a stereo vacuum tube amplifier that connects to Windows and Mac computers. The amplifier has a built in digital-to-analog converter so the digital code is sent to the amp in pure digital form and bypasses the poor-quality sound card in the computer. Users just connect from the USB port on the computer to the USB port on the back of the amp. It is truly plug-and-play with no software to load. The amplifier uses Vacuum Tubes like radios in the old days. Vacuum tubes are still used in high-end guitar and concert amps. Vacuum tubes give music a depth with detail, resolution and dynamics that solidstate transistor amplifiers can’t duplicate. That is especially needed in today’s flat digital music from a computer or CD. Since the amplifier is powered by vacuum tubes there is no complicated connections or user controls. The extra circuits of a solid-state amp take away and alter the music. The T-2 Front panel only has volume, power and selector switch. No bass, treble, loudness, etc controls are needed. Vacuum tubes just amplify the pure sound. When users connect their computer to the amp, the music on iTunes or other music

delivery application comes to life. The T-2 vacuum amplifier gives flat digital music a full soundstage. The music sounds as if the performers are actually performing in the room. The sound will fill an office, bedroom or living room. The T-2 amplifier can also be connected to a computer through WiFi. Users can have a computer in one room and send the music from iTunes to the T-2 amplifier on the other side of the house, wireless and control the play list from their iPhone or iPod Touch.

iPhone App Concept iPhone + Starbucks "Get your coffee fix, fast" iPhone/iPod Touch application that allows the users to purchase their favorite Starbucks drink without waiting in line. A lazy, antisocial caffiene-addict named Phil Lu has come up with an iPhone application concept that would enable you use an iPhone to order coffee from Starbucks, and pay for it via iTunes -- all without actually interacting with a human or dealing with a credit card. His masterpiece, called QuickOrder, uses Semacode barcode technology to associate specific iPhones to coffee orders. You just pick your coffee, then go grab the cup when it’s ready. Your iTunes account is charged.

The T-2 amplifier is about the size of a loaf of bread. The T-2 amp will fit well in any decor with a modern retro look. Sine most music is recorded in two channel stereo the T-2 amp requires only two good quality speakers to deliver the rich stereo sound in the way the performers intended.

The amplifier sells for $795.00 and is available at www.neuhauslabs.com www.genoco.com 48 | SPEC IAL EDITION

When you need to save your digital world from both foes extra-terrestial and earthly, send in a Female Gamer. When you started gaming at the age of 5, did you know that you wanted to be a professional gamer? I didn’t know I wanted to be a pro until I was 22-23 years old. I started playing Rainbow Six on Xbox Live. It was the first time I could play against people all across the world. I instantly became extremely competitive and realized then that I wanted to make a career out of gaming.

Since gaming is considered mostly a male dominated arena, how difficult was it to get involved? It wasn’t hard. I have always had more guy friends than girls and they all played video games, including my twin brother. It was males that introduced me to playing games and they never made me feel uncomfortable for playing them. I grew up feeling it was normal. It wasn’t until I started playing on Xbox Live when I realized girls in gaming was rare.

The Frag Dolls are known not only for being skilled gamers in multiple titles,

How long have you been a Frag Doll and what’s the best part about being on the team? 5 years. The competition and traveling. Is this your primary job? Yes, but Frag Dolls is a part time job. If I choose to go out and get another job, Frag Dolls is flexible enough for me to go out and do that. If somebody was interested in getting involved in this as a career, is gaming a possibility as a solid career opportunity? It can be, but I’m not going to lie, it takes a lot of hard work. You constantly have to prove your gaming skills and have to get out there and market yourself to potential sponsors. Sponsorship plays a huge role when it comes to professional gamers making money. Tournament winnings aren’t going to provide a stable income.

Does (or can) being male or female determine your chances of making more money in this industry? I don’t think so. I truly believe the harder you work the more successful you will be.

heads turn. From blinged out belts and buckles, to dazzling studded bracelets and earrings you will have to budgeted in the “can’t live without” handbags and shoes. The owners of Stash, Dianne and Semon Levy began their retail movement over 30 years ago, with clothing manufacturing for apparel being carried in stores such as Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Fred Seagal’s, Broadway, and Bullock’s. With the knowledge that Dianne and Semon gained while working in the clothing industry it is promising that they will continue to bring new, exciting, and top of the line brands into their stores for many years to come. Stash, a clothing boutique with several locations throughout the west coast, first came on the scene in Las Vegas, in 1995, debuting fashions Vegas had never seen before: Lucky Brand, Diesel, Miss Sixty, Betsey Johnson, BCBG, Rock & Republic Denim, Frankie B., True Religion, and Ed Hardy. Due to the stores success and the high demand for swanky fashions, Stash opened sister stores in Scottsdale, Chandler, and Mesa Arizona; with the Scottsdale store “Stash Collections” being its premier high-end location. Stash Collections has quickly established itself as one of the premiere shopping destinations in Scottsdale.

How to tell if someone is faking it online By Meredith Yeomans Winking, nudging, poking. It sounds more like symptoms of a disorder than a way of letting someone know you’re interested. But in the world of online dating, nothing should be taken at face value. If the idea of logging on for love makes you flinch, try telling that to the 40 million Americans currently using online dating services. So however viral it may sound, like everything else, the dating scene is now online.

give us a feeling about someone that they’re not being truthful. With the internet, you don’t get those clues.” Typical lies for men? Income and height. Typical lies for women? Age and weight. But knowing what to look for on a profile is the key to discovering digital deception.

Everyone lies. From harmless fibs to real doozies, the ugly truth about meeting someone on the web is that you’re never quite sure if what you see is what you get.

1. Inconsistencies. Compare what a person says in their e-mails with what their profile portrays. “If they talk about being an attorney and loving red wine, but all the pictures on their site show them drinking beer, holding a bong , and wearing cut-off shorts, that’s something to pay attention to,” says Daily.

“We feel guiltier if we lie to someone’s face than if we do it online,” says relationship expert, Lisa Daily. “A lot of the information that we glean from people in person, little facial cues: brow furrowing, nose wrinkling,

2. Rhythm of Interaction. If your relationship progresses beyond online chatting to phone calls, there are plenty of non-verbal clues that should tell you whether a person is being truthful.

According to Daily, a red flag should go up if you talk around the same time each day, for example, like a lunch hour, the drive home from work, or while their running an errand alone. “Pay attention to the rhythm of when they contact you versus the natural rhythm of life,” explains Daily, “and if it doesn’t match up, (like if they’re only calling you at two o’clock in the morning), that’s something to pay attention to.” Take phone conversations between Scott Peterson and his mistress, Amber Frey, for example. During his 2004 murder trial, prosecutors claimed Frey often heard water running in the background when the two spoke on the phone. The argument was that Peterson tried to cover up his affair by calling Frey from the confines of a restroom. “That’s something common in married men,” Daily says, “They never really call while they’re just sitting at home watching TV.”

Pepping Up Your Profile Wear red. Studies show viewing the color red increases your heart rate, and stimulates attraction. Women tend to wear black because it’s slimming, but red really makes photos pop off the page. “You get that instant vava-voom,” says Daily. 70 | SPEC IAL EDITION

3 Changes To Make To Meet Your Perfect Mate

Keep it simple. Write your profile like an advertisement, short and to the point. Bullet point 3 unique things about yourself – your hot sauce collection, an off-the-wall movie you like, a favorite team – then wrap it up. People can only absorb so much at once.

Be funny. Humor is always a good thing to include if you really are a comical person.

rom experts to the water cooler, this question has been posed to mixed responses. Ladies, are you looking for the proverbial male needle in the haystack that is built like an Adonis, is as smooth as George Clooney, financially savvy, and ambitious as Donald Trump while treating you like a Queen? Well, when the shoe is on the other foot, our gentlemen friends had their own picture of the perfection they are looking for. LOS ANGELES Hollywood’s Golden Age – Playhouse Hollywood Hollywood Boulevard has a long and illustrious history; one paragon of the boulevard and the city was the Fox Theater, home to many Hollywood Premiers and events for decades before closing its doors in the ‘90s. Alas, the landmark theater has been recreated with an innovative taste for nightlife by mixing three levels of captivating decor with eye candy treats spread all over. The Muse Lifestyle Group piloted by Rob Vinokur and Elie Samaha have created an atmosphere of decadence beginning with an intriguing bar staff who will not only pour

your favorite drink but will also perform a trapeze act or a short burlesque set for further entertainment. With all the added theatrics, the lines for drinks are shorter than you would expect since the club was designed with an abundant array of mixologists stations housed in its four bars. At 13,000 square feet and a cost of $6 million, the reawakening and refining of Hollywood’s yester year club atmosphere, Playhouse Hollywood has quickly become the go to destination. Not the normal night out of mundane DJs and sub-standard dive bars, management suggests an early arrival (club time), as on any given Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday the line to get in tends to be around the corner.

“I have reached my goals, won my medals, and broken my bones,”

UNIQ Lifestyles caught up with Carey in Las Vegas recently to discuss his Past, Present and Future during our Special Edition Cover photo shoot. As sole owner of Hart and Huntington Tattoo and Wasted Space, in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, H&H clothing line, and putting together upcoming reality TV show “Hartluck Life”, it looks like Hart is revving up for great things!

put together in six weeks. The results were fantastic. “It was a huge success,” says Hart. On the couples attempt to integrate their businesses in order to spend more time together, the concept to combine H&H and Pink was born. They are considering bringing this concept to America and Europe. “It felt good to be back on the ramp,” says Hart. Following his retirement from sports, Hart never quit riding regardless of fighting injuries and trying to keep his body in “one piece.” Hart had not done a full tour in six years and claims it “lit a fire” in him. Since the tour, Hart now has offers coming in to do demo’s in South America and Europe, which he is taking into consideration. “It could be great to get out and promote H&H brand,” says Hart.

Hart and Huntington recently moved from The Palms Hotel and Casino. “It was time for a facelift,” says Hart, “it’s a breath of fresh air.” The new shop has been open for approximately four months and business has worked in its favor. Even though Las Vegas has felt the shutter just as bad as everyone else, Hart believes that because Hard Rock is such a “cool” factor it is withstanding the test of time. Although, there are months when Hart has to dig deep into his pockets, he recognizes it is, “much a part of business.” “The rescission is brutal…you can’t roll over and play dead,” says Hart. Hosting “Guest Spots” at their Las Vegas shop, Hart and Huntington has come up with a way to give back to the tattoo community. Once a month, H&H will be flying out high profile tattoo artists, letting them bring their talent to his shop. The artist will keep all their revenue, and in addition, there will be a party in their honor at Wasted Space giving them the rock star treatment. “We are gonna have some pretty amazing talent coming through,” claims Hart. H&H recently shut down their Cabo San Lucas location after three years running, but with locations in Orlando, Hawaii and upcoming locations in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Niagara Falls, he is far from stopping now. He has recently returned from Australia promoting Hart and Huntington along with his rock star wife Pink who was on tour. The idea for a double tour arose last minute, and the show was

to come full circle and stick it back in those people’s face.” With his popularity, increasing talent, and better results in the pit, Hart wants to be around for the long haul.

UNIQ Lifestyles

iving the majority of his life in Las Vegas, Hart, now 34, got a taste motocross at the age of four after his father purchased him his first motorcycle. It wasn’t long before the sport became his passion and turned him into a professional racer. Starting with AMA Supercross circuit later lead him to the innovating Freestyle motocross movement in 1998. On his quest to bring motocross to the world, Hart has brought the world to him. He has been featured in many ad campaigns such as Ford, Mountain Dew, and FOX and starred in TV shows INKED and MTV’s Real Life of Ryan. Hart has also been on several of Pink’s videos – which, by the way, happens to be his beautiful wife – and, The Late Show with Dave Letterman. After his many achievements and over 60 broken bones Hart decided to retire from racing, taking him to an entire new venture.

With so many involvements, what next but to combine it all into a hip reality show? “Hartluck Life” is a project in the works about Hart and all of the elements in his life and business world. Similar to Inked, it will have some of the same fundamentals, but Hart wants to make a show that portrays the real life drama involved in their challenges and stay away from manufactured storylines. Success for Hart undeniably can be bitter sweet. As he tries to take advantage as his opportunities and tries to see his wife as often as possible, Hart does not remember the last day he had a vacation or even a day off. “It’s kind of a big problem in my life right now,” says Hart. Starting everyday at seven o’clock in the morning, and ending them at his nightclub, he has very much become accustomed to his sixteen hour days. Although, he has no doubt he is very fortunate. “I’m not waking up every morning doing a job that I hate, it gets a little tricky but it’s all really fun stuff.” As for the tributes to his success, Hart is convinced that good old fashion hard work is what has brought him to where he stands today, and doesn’t forget that surrounding himself with a good team of people has contributed to his accomplishments.

But the days of freestyle competition are over for Hart. He is amazed what athletes are doing to push the boundaries of the sport, but more than satisfied with his accomplishments, Hart is at a new level in life. “I have reached my goals, won my medals, and broken my bones,” says Hart, I’m trying to have a cool, fun element in my career.” Hart is still kicking up dirt with off-road truck racing; and supporting the ‘Action Sports’ arena, through racing, management and sponsorships Having the misfortune at some point in his life of being forced out of supercross because of being heavily tattooed, he thinks it’s, “kind of fun to be able

As one of today’s young, influential, trendsetters, Harts popularity remains on the rise. His new venture, Wasted Space, a rock tar’s nightclub who’s specialty drink is aptly named the ‘Hart Attack’ after his famous motorcycle trick. brings him to the forefront of the nightclub industry. The list of businesses are growing with the H&H design and clothing store too. When asked what was his advice to entrepreneurs he replied, “If you’re doing something that you are passionate about and think it will withstand the test of time, keep at it.” Harts exciting life and thriving businesses are here to stay. So make sure you keep a look out for H&H. “We’re off and running,” says Hart. Check out his website at www.hartandhuntingtontattoo.com.

Beauty and the Beat By : Martha C. Arvizu Photography by Paul Sebring www.sebringphotography.com Shot on Location at “thestudio-phoenix.com”

Dawn Jam

Our cover girl Dawn Jameson has a lot going on; beauty is only skin deep, and this stunning, blonde bombshell is the complete package; she writes, sings, models and acts. With a calendar packed with performances, studio time, photo shoots, and industry meetings that could break the average person, Dawn thrives on activity. UNIQ Lifestyles Magazine spent the day with the songbird during her photo shoot for the cover of this month’s issue; in between hair, make up, wardrobe changes and of course the actual shoot, we were able to get a glimpse in the life that is “Dawn Jameson”.

Self taught, Jameson started to play the piano at the early age of four, from her grandmothers piano and honing her singing skills to pitch perfect precision. Jameson made a great performer of herself centering her entire life around music and looking up to icons like Aretha Franklin, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys.

Performances in Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay, Bally’s and Paris Paris have expanded Dawn’s fan base beyond the Metro Phoenix area. If that weren’t enough, among her T.V. appearances on Gene Simmons Family Jewels, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Dawn considers being on the Tonight Show to be her most memorable moment. “All I wanted to do was take a picture with Jay because I was such a fan,” remembers Jameson.

She is well on her way but her journey is far from over. Currently launching not one, but two, bands, Dawl, with D.J. Brazilia, and Daisy Train, with MetalHead guitarist, John Bronson, Jameson is going for the gold! The Gold record that is. Currently she is waiting on arrangements from Universal Records, Warner Bros and Universal Republic. “I am also working with Jay Brown.” (Yes, Jay-Z and Riahanna’s Jay Brown) says Jameson. “ We’re going to come out with two demo’s and hopefully put them on the radio really soon.”

“If I can give back in any way, especially through singing, it’s just such an honor.” Never failing to up the beat at local clubs around Scottsdale, Jameson has made her mark at places like Barcelona, Sandbar, and American Junkie to name a few. However, her calendar is not limited to performances at night clubs. Some of Jameson’s favorite participations in nationally recognized events include NBA Block Parties where she has opened for Kevin Rudolf and Scottsdale Fashion Week. “I did a show with Ester Nash”, Jameson recalls, “I was one of the first singers on the runway where they did a show incorporating music and fashion.” Charities like the McKenna Youth Foundation, Boys and Girls Club of America and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation are not forgotten. “I do have a big heart for charity,” says Jameson. “If I can give back in any way, especially through singing, it’s just such an honor.”

Another Name Grand Lux Cafe came to life when The Venetian Resort, Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas asked David Overton, Founder of The Cheesecake Factory Restaurants, to create an upscale casual restaurant concept for their property. Working off the “Venetian” theme, Overton traveled to Europe to study Italian trattorias, French bistros, and the grand cafes and pastry shops of Vienna. His tour focused on food, architecture, décor and design and provided the inspiration for what the restaurant was destined to become. Mixing the European cafes grandeur and luxury with the sensibilities and spirit of an all-American restaurant, “Grand Lux Cafe” was born. With locations in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and Houston, Grand Lux Cafe is proud to offer a unique, casual global cuisine in an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. Grand Lux Cafe’s diverse menu offers flavor profiles ranging from Thai, Malaysian and Caribbean, to classic American and European specialties. Items are prepared fresh to order in their exhibition-style kitchen. From appetizer , entrée generous - perfect for Specialty Appetizers, Oven and Sandwiches, Salads, and Grill Specialties, and

and dessert, portions are sharing. Selections include Baked Rustic Pizzas, Burgers Pasta Dishes, Oven, Broiler Certified Angus Beef Steaks.

Elaborate design, sumptuous fabrics and textures, and custom artisan-created details are abound. Awash in a color scheme reminiscent of a Venetian carnival, Grand Lux Cafe is a feast for the eyes. All-marble floors and tabletops, hand-blown glass fixtures, and intricate mosaics add to the lavish interior. Motifs borrowing from the great artists of the “grand cafe” era envelop the dining area, bringing warmth and personality to the space. With locations in Las Vegas (The Venetian), Los Angeles (Beverly Center) and Scottsdale (Fashion Square) these eateries are designed for grandeur but never forgo comfort; the inviting dining rooms are perfect for a cozy party of two or a festive party of twenty. Selection, Style and Grace is what the Grand Lux Café promises, and delivers

Recognizing that the very best desserts are those that are baked to order, an on-premise bakery can be found at each Grand Lux Cafe. From Molten Chocolate Cake and New Orleans Beignets to Warm Rustic Apple Pie and Warm Homemade Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies, their special baked to order desserts add a fabulous finish to any meal. Also offered is a notable selection of unusual and creative Specialty Cocktails and Martinis, as well as an array of Beer, Wine and After Dinner Drinks. Taking design and style themes from the Old World cafes and bistros of Europe, Grand Lux Cafe provides an escape from the ordinary, defining a new category in dining - the super upscale casual restaurant.

“Stack” has received attention for offering its guests a memorable experience. Situated inside the Mirage, the menu works its magic with seafood specialties and countless other land dominating delicacies. Rave reviews come pouring in time and time again for The Stack’s quality meals and for a casual elegance that makes the atmosphere so well received. Dark lighting and hit music match up to the latest and greatest feel for a great night out on the strip. Friendly service, complete with bathroom attendants, sets a scene of welcome. A sophisticated dining room lets you sit back in style, while the high energy bar brings both scenery and satisfaction. Delicious drinks like the mango mojito are lusciously refreshing. As for décor, tall ceiling and rich mahogany wood speak a language of class. Modeled after Bryce Canyon in Utah, sleek horizontal plains stacked up against the side walls for a real and true cutting edge design, inspire the name of the restaurant. Aside from all the modern make up and beautiful wood-work, The Stack offers excellence in American bistro, incorporating everything from traditional meals to the dish with a twist. For something familiar try the tomato soup and a mini grilled cheese-definitely some solid goodness! The Crunchy Ahi Tuna Taco’s and Ribeye cuts are just an introduction to the mini-specialties worth mentioning. Chef Saul Ortiz is a twenty year veteran in his craft, whose inspiration began as he observed his mothers cooking growing up in Mexico. Rest assured the menu is authentic. Selections include: Mahi Mahi Ceviche, Carne Asada Tacos with Chile Morita Salsa, Beef Barbacoa Enchiladas with Oaxaca Cheese and Carnitas (pork) Burrito to name a few. The portions are just enough to leave room for the Casarita Margarita, mixing Hornitos Añejo 100% de Agave organic agave nectar, Grand Marnier and freshly squeezed limes.

Tacos and Tequila is Las Vegas’ newest place for the best Mexican food. Chef Saul Ortiz has offered a revisited and tantalizing menu of traditional Mexican dishes with several variations to excite your taste buds. The décor, the cuisine and the tequila selections, work hand in hand to bring you an excellent dining experience.

Tacos and Tequila is the last thing that may cross your mind when entering into the sphinx at the Luxor Hotel. But, it is the name of the Luxor’s latest innovation combining traditional Mexican cuisine with a modern sense. Its design reflects this notion, with huge paintings of few juxtaposed female matadors. The lure of this unique restaurant outside of the architecture is definitely the menu and Tequila selection that boosts nothing but the best. You know you’re at Tacos and Tequila when you see a 30 foot skeleton chugging a bottle of tequila.

A Good Time to Start a Business By: Ronald L Caron, Jr., CMA Caron Financial Consultants, LLC

UNIQ FINANCIALS

“...everything is cheaper right now.” Yes, we are in a recession. The US economy is without question experiencing a downward turn. When times are good, customers are happy and loyal to the products or services they purchase. Here’s what happens in bad times; disruption, chaos and panic. This means that things change. When things change, there are opportunities; and entrepreneurs seize these opportunities every day. Recessions make for a buyers’ market, and businesses that can grow as the economy gets back on track will likely be the survivors in the long run. Look at it this way, everything is cheaper right now. This means it will take much less capital to get your business going from land and equipment to commercial office space, personnel and labor. With the real estate market slowing in every part of the country, there is an over abundance of retail, office and warehouse space at considerably reduced costs. Take a good look the next time you are out and see if you notice all the empty available rentals in some great locations; and think about how they would be perfect for your new business idea. You can also find great deals on nearly new furniture and office equipment at auctions from companies who ramped up too fast or are closing their doors and are now selling off their assets for a fraction of what they paid.

dependent. Their credit line consists of a Visa card, savings, friends and family. You might even have friends and family that are leery of investing more money into the stock or realestate markets, and they may be willing to consider financing a portion of your new venture. There are also many tax incentives for the business owner. Setting up your own company, such as a limited liability company (LLC) is a unique form of business that blends the characteristics of corporations,

marketing and discontinuing their services to “smaller” customers. These discontinued services can make a great niche for you; and as the competition reduces it services to its customers, customers are also looking for cheaper alternatives regardless of any long time loyalties. You may also present yourself as an outsource opportunity for the larger corporations that have discontinued those services. Recessions are not only advantageous to start-ups but pre-existing companies can also make incredible gains in years where the economy is down. Starting or growing an existing company during times of recession will give you a lead over the competition, and will be well worth the extra struggle. When the economy comes out of the recession, your business will be established and that much further along than those that choose to wait for better times.

Now with the unemployment rate at 9.5%, the largest since 1983 (9.6%), there is also a greater availability of better qualified people. In tough times, even the large businesses lay off good employees. There is a great pool of talent waiting for you to launch your new venture.

If you think you cannot get funding, keep this in mind, there are many risky startups that have never gotten funding. There are over 27 million businesses in the US and the vast majority of them are not credit

partnerships and sole proprietorships into a simple and flexible business entity that many small business owners prefer. An LLC legally separates the business from its owners (like a corporation), yet it can elect to be treated as a partnership for tax purposes. In this case, the LLC doesn’t pay any tax itself, the income is passed through to the owners as with partnerships. The tax rules governing partnerships are more flexible, allowing for more flexibility in tax planning. Some of the things that happen during a recession are that many of the larger corporations reduce their

Whether it is internet based, technology, retail, consulting, or service related, now is a great time for you to turn that idea into a successful business. And if you are still skeptical about starting a business in these economic times, consider this: Sixteen of the 30 companies that make up the Dow industrial average were started during a recession or depression. Some of these include Procter & Gamble, Disney, McDonald’s, General Electric and Johnson & Johnson.

the storm? By: Ronald L Caron, Jr., CMA Caron Financial Consultants, LLC As the economy continues to struggle in the midst of the stomachchurning financial crisis, we should take a “time out” to reflect and figure out what we should do next. The American way of life we have become accustomed to for so many years is now under pressure. The seriousness of our situation becomes clearer by reading the analysis that fills the airwaves, print media, and the Internet. The majority of it is speculation, as the full extent of our current crisis is too vast to see. We have all felt the effects of today’s crisis and many families and individuals are tightening their proverbial belts even more and looking for ways to survive financially. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of unemployed persons (14.7 million) and the unemployment rate (9.5 percent) were little changed in June. But since the start of the recession in December 2007, the number of unemployed persons has increased by 7.2 million, and the unemployment rate has risen by 4.6 percentage points. So what do we do to weather the storm? First and foremost, spend less than you earn and avoid excessive debt. If household incomes are reduced due to unemployment or lower investment earnings, and household expenses continue to rise along with increased credit card interest rates, adjust your household spending plan, or budget accordingly, or prepare one for the first time.

1 0 4 | SPEC IAL EDITION

Be conscious of your debt management. The days of saying, “Oh, just charge it and there will be time to pay it off later” are gone for now. The credit merry-go-round of using credit cards to survive, which is continually increasing consumer debt is not the same ride of years past, buying on credit now, is not necessarily a month or two reprieve when you habitually do it all again month after month with no exit plan. Here are the top five debt statistics that will hopefully shock you: • Today’s consumer has an average of 13 debt obligations on their credit report • The total amount of debt owed by Americans is more than 2.5 Trillion • 38% of the 2.5trillion comes from credit card debt • The average amount of credit card debt per card holder is $12,500 • 74.9% of families have credit cards and 58% of those carry a balance If you have the ability to pay off your balance every month, you may want to consider getting a cash back credit card. These cards are a great way to reduce your expenses by getting as much as 5% or more back on your purchases. If you cannot say no to purchasing, consider using only your debit card. Many banks are offering rewards on debit card purchases as well. It is also time to scale back our lifestyle and collection of things. Consider selling that second car,

emptying that self storage unit, or getting on eBay or other avenues and downsizing. While we do not know how long or how painful it will be, we do know that this has the potential to be the worst financial crisis any of us have ever lived through. If we can manage to muddle through the crisis with

some common sense and some calm, there might be an upside to all of this. It is up to all of us to do our part to survive and start building a brighter more stable financial future for ourselves today. We all have it in us to weather the storm.

BLACKsummers’night A long summer’s night with someone you’re feelin’ can be a wonderful thing. Throw in a soulful sound track and anything can happen. The new Maxwell album will steer you in the right direction; after 8 years of musical silence he has delivered a work of art that has the ability to take a questionable situation to a pleasurable one, at least for your ears. BLACKsummers’night is the first installment of a musical trilogy of the likes not seen since “The Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy. Both of the blackSUMMERS’night and blacksummers’NIGHT will close out the trilogy; one gospel influenced and one weighted with slow jams will be released over the next 2 years.

Maxwell proves that if nothing else, his name should symbolize relevance!!! Photo Credit: Eric Johnson

True to his roots; the nine-track CD kicks off with ‘Bad Habits’; skipping through the foreplay and getting down to the business. Between the emotion of ‘Fistful of Tears,’ the trumpet solo on ‘Playing Opossum,’ and the instrumental wonder that is Phoenix Rise. With a new tour, and a fresh look, Maxwell proves that if nothing else; his is alive and well projecting his special blend of Neo-Soul and Smooth Croon to the masses. Maxwell hopes to continue his success this fall with a new round of at least 14 performances. R&B and rap artist Common is the main support for the tour, though he will not appear at all the fall dates. The tour bill will also include opening sets from soul singer Chrisette Michele, who appeared with Maxwell over the summer.

UNIQ Music UNIQ Lifestyle’s was given the opportunity to host LMFAO during their recent visit to the Valley. From their arrival at Sky Harbor Airport we acted as social ambassadors to area hot spots and getting them to their highly anticipated performance at Martini Ranch closing out an exciting weekend with an after-party at Myst. SkyBlu and Redfoo started beat boxing on the streets of Hollywood mixing and mashing electro’s poignant use of reverbs, delays, pleasers and all components of synthesizers with hip hop influence conceiving the sound of LMFAO. Blue and Red once considered the name Sexy Dudes, but after instant messaging the name to Blu’s grandma, her simple replyLMFAO-became the duo’s name. After releasing their first album Party Rock this past July, they have been on tour performing in major cities. As the name implies, “Laughing My F*@ cking Ass Off”, is a perfect description of the pairs personality. Their unique fashion sense is reminiscent of the late 70’s neon day glow. Can Redfoo’s afro get any bigger?

Their live performance was a mix of crazy dance moves and wildin’out . Crowds could not contain themselves screaming along with their rendition I’m in the Valley Bitch. Sky Blu and Redfoo are unique artists that know how to bring the party to the people. Before the release of their first album the ensembles remixes for Kanye West’s Love LockDown and Fergie’s Clumsy have been heard throughout the radio world. D.J.’s have played several of their singles for the past year but only recently have these tracks been released to the public.

Party Rock is the first installment of their electrifying sound. Their scream along single Shots, featuring Lil’ Jon has been another rising single for several weeks. Another club favorite, La La La, brings a new swagger to the radio. Every so often somebody creates a beat that epitomizes your summer. These boys have surely done so. Any one of these in-your-face-jams is anthem worthy.
