German News Ashburton College becomes a PASCH school A new relationship between Ashburton College and Germany was made real for three of its students who recently returned from three weeks in Frankfurt on the Goethe-Intitut Winterkurs. Pupils Heni Ede, 17, Katie Hollings, 16 and Maria Totolici, 16, were the first to be selected for the German Government-funded trip. It was the beginning of a special connection for the college after it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Goethe-Institut last year. Four New Zealand schools have joined over 1000 others around the world, as part of a global school initiative to form a strong relationship with Germany and its language and culture. (PASCH 'Schools: Partners for the Future') The new bond now gives Ashburton College pupils the opportunity to visit the country for several weeks and enhances German teaching resources at the school. The Winterkurs consisted of lessons in the mornings and organised activities including excursions in the afternoons. The girls were unanimous in their appreciation of this wonderful experience and of their teacher, Ken Pow, who has been instrumental in establishing the relationship with the Goethe-Institut.
