There are now 25 states with pilot programs testing incentives to boost purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables in the food stamp program, known as SNAP. With SNAP expenditures over $80 billion annually, retailers and produce suppliers alike are looking for ways to drive healthier eating and fresh produce choices. The 2014 Farm Bill provides $100 million in federal matching funds to expand and evaluate fruit and vegetable incentive programs. Learn how your company can get involved in this major new opportunity.
SUPPLY CHAIN LOGISTICS What’s New with PTI, Traceability and Warehouse Management Systems?

FDA’s proposed Preventive Controls Rule will place new requirements for produce warehouses, storage facilities, distribution centers and off-farm facilities throughout our supply chain. And, companies that import produce into the United States will now face specific new requirements to assure that these fruits and vegetables have been grown in compliance with the Produce Safety Rule. In this session, we’ll review FDA’s proposed Preventive Controls and Foreign Supplier Verification Rules and how they will affect your business.
With consumers looking for locally grown produce, small growers are increasing coming into the traditional fresh produce supply chain. Yet, food safety needs are not dependent on size, as bacteria don’t know or care what size farm they may be living on. How can small producers incorporate needed food safety practices in their operations, and how can wholesale, retail and foodservice buyers assure that they’re only handling produce from food safety compliant farms? Come see the “best of the best” in cutting edge research affecting the fresh and fresh-cut industry, at this session presented in partnership with the S-294 coalition of university and government researchers. After the workshop, head over to our Research Poster Session to review the newest research reports from university and government scientists.
