Community Result: The community is prepared to respond to disasters and emergencies
Strategies Advocacy Public Policy at all levels improves the community’s ability to address its most frequent emergencies and disasters. Response preparation Individuals are prepared to respond to emergencies and disasters through increased knowledge and skill. Sustaining infrastructure for community responders Community-based organizations have the infrastructure in place to respond to emergencies and disasters. Response to emergency/disaster People who experience an individual emergency/disaster have their immediate needs Response to emergency/disaster for special populations People with special needs who experience an individual emergency/disaster have their immediate needs met.
Priority Considerations •
Community-based organizations identified in the strategy designed to sustain infrastructure do not include public safety or emergency forces such as police, fire or emergency medical responders.

In addition to individual readiness for a household emergency/disaster, emphasis will be placed on first aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training to support community disaster preparedness

Special populations include: older adults, children, lowincome households, non-English speaking households, medically fragile and people without access to transportation.

Emergency – An unexpected event which places life and/or property in danger and requires an immediate response through the use of existing, routine community resources and procedures. Disaster – An emergency in which a community undergoes severe danger and incurs or is threatened to incur, such losses to persons and property that resources require to respond go beyond the capability of the community Short-Term – Immediate response and follow-up for no longer than 30 days
