Vision: Franklin County is a thriving community of hopeful, healthy children, and strong families. Mission Statement: It is the mission of the Franklin County Children’s Cabinet to provide leadership and insight to policy makers, other Franklin County organizations, and the community in order to make Franklin County a thriving community of hopeful, healthy children and strong families. Strategic Initiative Statement: The Franklin County Children’s Cabinet serves as a voice for children. It will process issues to action by marshalling resources of systems to make change happen. Strategic Direction: The Children’s Cabinet will focus its resources on supporting and creating extended learning opportunities for children. Extended learning opportunities are supervised activities with the intention to keep youth safe and healthy and provide an opportunity to prepare youth to be ready to learn and advance learning opportunities. Extended learning opportunities may provide the following benefits to families: Increase early and lifelong opportunities to learn. Safe environments for children while parents work. Alternative activities to engage children and prevent delinquent behavior. Alternative activities to engage children and prevent pregnancy. Alternative activities to engage children and prevent alcohol, tobacco and drug use and abuse. Alternative activities to engage families and prevent child abuse and neglect. Extended learning opportunities acknowledge that children are eager to learn and when presented with the choice of a safe, healthy, positive, learning environment, they will choose that option.
