Flex Projects are recurring projects in support of various nonprofits and are led by trained Hands On Volunteer Leaders. Flex Projects don't require an ongoing commitment, giving our volunteers the chance to explore a variety of opportunities that impact our community. Portable Projects are our most flexible volunteer opportunities. Portable projects can be done at home or work, as an individual or with a group of friends/colleagues. These managed projects are the core of our programming.

It was a wonderful experience. My daughter and I and our friends felt very welcome, and were able to learn more about "Teacher's Pet" and Hands On Asheville-Buncombe’s work to support our schools. Would do it again in a heartbeat!! ~ "Teacher’s Pet" Volunteer

MLK Day is an opportunity for our community to answer Dr. King's question, "What are you doing for others?" On January 21, 323 volunteers of all ages gathered to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, jr. by participating in our annual MLK InterGenerational Day of Service in collaboration with Land of Sky Regional Council.

On October 28, Hands On managed a large-scale corporate service day for NTCA. NTCA employees and neighbors from the nearby Biltmore Lake community served more than 400 hours to transform the Enka Middle School campus. Multiple landscaping, painting, and educational projects saved the school over $8000!

After much shopping, packing, sorting and distributing... the collective result of our Back-to-School Supply Drive helped support a record 1,101 students! 41 volunteers contributed an incredible 150+ service hours. Significant donations from generous individuals, families, civic groups and local businesses helped make the drive a tremendous success. The value of these donations equaled more than $66,000! These fully-stocked backpacks relieved a financial burden for many low-income families, and enabled 1,101 young students attending 51 schools to start the school year on a more level playing field. Special thanks to all volunteers and donors who participated!
