Contributing to United Way of Central Oklahoma is about more than supporting a cause; it is about causing something to happen. Your dollars help fund programs that are proven to create change. This change doesn’t just impact the individual or family seeking assistance, it affects our entire community. Our unique allocation system allows us to remain transparent and accountable. Donors like you volunteer their time to review United Way funded program budgets, IRS 990’s, audits and program outcomes. Following this review, volunteer teams make funding recommendations based on their findings and the program funding request, with United Way’s Board of Directors making the final funding decision. This process ensures your contribution is invested in the best possible way.

Investing in our community’s children is the best way to ensure our continued growth. Children living in poverty oftentimes arrive at school hungry, tired and unprepared to learn. United Way of Central Oklahoma supports programs that focus on providing essential tools for children and their families to become successful. Programs include specialized education, after-school activities, counseling and character building.

Strong families help create strong communities. The strain of maintaining a household on a minimal income can lead to unhealthy behavior and added stress on a family unit. United Way of Central Oklahoma funds programs that help strengthen families by providing assistance for life’s basic needs, enabling these families to reach their potential. Programs include rent and utility assistance, job placement services, literacy courses, financial education and counseling.

Suffering from a life-threatening illness, trauma from abuse, mental illness or an addiction can happen to anyone and can be a frightening experience. Not having insurance can amplify the stress of the situation. United Way of Central Oklahoma supports programs that provide services to the under and uninsured. Programs include medical clinics, a cooperative pharmacy, dental services, mental health services, counseling, shelter and preventative education.

Central Oklahoma’s aging population is growing and it is important to offer resources that enable these citizens to thrive and remain independent. Interaction with peers and access to medical care is critical for our community’s seniors. United Way of Central Oklahoma funds programs that provide volunteer opportunities, daily senior center activities, adult day centers, senior buddies and transportation to and from medical and dental appointments and some day and senior centers.

Emergencies are unpredictable and can affect us individually or as a community. Whether it is a financial crisis, health emergency, or natural or man-made disaster, being prepared is critical. United Way of Central Oklahoma provides funding to programs that help central Oklahoman’s be proactive and prepared for all types of emergencies. Programs include disaster relief assistance, financial education courses, first-aid and CPR training and health education courses.
Leadership Giving Become a member of the Leadership Giving Society and maximize your impact. Membership begins with a contribution of about $10 per week. Members receive all the benefits reserved for our most generous donors. United Way affinity groups offer unique volunteer and networking opportunities for women contributing $2,500 or more annually, and for young professionals who pledge $500 or more annually.
