2021 UNITED WAY LEADERSHIP GIVING PROGRAM

WHO ARE UNITED WAY LEADERS?

Leaders are everyday people who recognize the growing issues facing our community including access to mental health supports, racism, domestic violence, social isolation, school readiness, homelessness, and poverty. These caring and generous individuals believe and trust that United Way can help solve these issues and more through their connection to the community, government, and other partnerships. Local love and change happen through active leadership. United Way Leaders show their local love by making a gift of $1,200 or more each year. United Way Leaders know that lasting and positive change is possible, and our community is strongest and healthiest when everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Their acts of local love change lives.

Lindsay Arnott Hanif Hemani Co-Chair, 2021 Annual Fundraising Cabinet, Managing Director, Express Employment Professionals

Co-Chair, 2021 Annual Fundraising Cabinet, Social Responsibility Supervisor, Federated Co-operatives Limited

“ This past year has been challenging but it has also highlighted the incredible generosity of our community members and organizations. It is because of this generosity that United Way can continue to engage and mobilize community funding, strengthen the network of services and the capacity of local non-profits, and support our city’s most vulnerable citizens. We are proud to continually witness this community’s local love, care, and support for those who need it most. Every individual in our community deserves the opportunity to thrive - this is why we support United Way.”

UNITED WAY IS TACKLING #UNIGNORABLE ISSUES THROUGH ACTS OF LOCAL LOVE United Way works year-round to address the complex needs of our community’s most vulnerable people; the children, families and individuals who are often ignored. We participate in research, advocacy, collaborative projects, education and training, and facilitated strategic partnerships in order to solve long ignored issues including, poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, food security, school readiness, mental health, and social isolation. Acts of Local Love are how we can come together as a community to tackle #UNIGNORABLE issues. An act of local love can take many forms. It might be a simple as a wave hello or as exciting as an office group volunteer for a community Day of Caring project. At United Way we are committed to channeling local love in all we do, so that together we can change lives through long-term, sustainable change.

“ I am extremely proud to support United Way. Many young people might think they can’t afford to give at the Leadership level, but in my view I can’t afford not to. I’m investing in Saskatoon and supporting those who need it most. It’s more than just charitable giving, I am confident that the money raised goes to programs that makes our community better for everyone.” Kara Leftley United Way of Saskatoon and Area Board Chair, Human Resources Advisor, Affinity Credit Union

“ United Way is an organization that has done a lot in our community for many years. We feel really fortunate to live in such a great community and have had the opportunities we’ve had. We donate to United Way to give opportunities to others in the community.” Heidi and Dave Shockey Vice President, Controller, Cameco Corporation

FOCUS AREAS OF INVESTMENT • United Way helps kids be all that they can be by focusing on a child’s preparation for kindergarten, achievement of grade level reading and a confident journey toward independence. • United Way builds strong communities by supporting positive mental health initiatives, creating a barrier free path to services, and connecting people to their community. • United Way moves people from poverty to possibility by ensuring basic human needs are met, individuals attain stable housing and families have a safe place to call home.

THANK YOU

United Way Leaders choose to show their local love by making a gift to United Way because they see the issues that are so often ignored such as poverty, mental health, homelessness and more, and they know through their support change is possible. Thank you! In 2020, 552 Leadership donors contributed a total of $1,929,587. 100% of donations to United Way of Saskatoon and Area stay in our community because we know our community is strongest when everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

“ As a union member, I have seen what value there is in working together. I believe this to be true for a community - when people in the community are in need, it takes groups like United Way to make it stronger. This is why I feel it is my responsibility to donate and share my good fortune. You never know when it may be you or someone you love who is in need.” Darcy Shand United Steelworkers Local 7689

2021 LEADERSHIP MATCH

Double the LOVE in 2021! All new individual Leadership donations will be doubled in 2021! An individual donor who makes a gift (undesignated) of between $1,200 and $9,999 between April 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022 and has not donated at this level in the previous fiscal year, will be recognized as a New Leader and their gift will be doubled! This match is possible thanks to the support of a generous and anonymous Local Love Leader. New Leadership donations will be matched up to a total of $100,000. For example, if you make a gift of $1,200, United Way will receive $2,400 to help support children, adults, and families right here at home. Your impact will be doubled!

“ We are so fortunate to live in a caring and vibrant community in Saskatoon where so many groups and organizations work daily to support citizens – adults, children and youth- who have a range of needs, from a safe shelter, a warm meal to mental health and addictions support and help with learning critical life skills. As a long-time United Way supporter, I continue to be grateful for the role United Way plays in enriching our community by assisting me to direct my gifts to the organizations and places in the community where they are most needed and can make the biggest positive difference. I am proud that United Way is able to serve as a partner with me in making this community even stronger.” Shan Landry

Community volunteer and retired health care administrator

WAYS TO GIVE

Many United Way of Saskatoon and Area Leaders make personal donations or make use of the payroll deduction option through their employers, but there are other ways to be a community Leader. DONATIONS OF LISTED SECURITIES Take advantage of greater tax saving opportunities while creating positive change in our community. By donating publicly traded shares to United Way, you will not pay any capital gains tax normally associated with such a disposition. You will receive a tax receipt for the full value of the shares but are not taxed on any gain. Donors of securities therefore do not need to take any capital gain into income.

THE TOMORROW FUND

PLANNED GIVING OPTIONS

By making a gift to The Tomorrow Fund, a donor can ensure a gift will continue in perpetuity. The gift is invested wisely, professionally managed, and indexed into inflation to ensure the real value of the capital is maintained. The annual income generated in excess of the amount capitalized for inflation is used by United Way to support innovative and effective community programs.are not taxed on any gain. Donors of securities therefore do

A Planned Gift is a personal matter – a thoughtful commitment to the future. Many donors are interested in making sure their support continues after they are no longer making an annual contribution. Planned gifts are often made from assets accumulated with care over many years.

not need to take any capital gain into income.

United Way of Saskatoon and Area is able to help you achieve your charitable objectives. You may be surprised at how simple it is to make a substantial gift with flexible giving options such as: • A bequest in your will; • A gift of life insurance; • A gift of cash, securities, or property; • A gift in the form of residual interest; • A commemorative gift

CHARITABLE TAX CREDITS IN SASKATCHEWAN

WHILE YOUR DONATION IS HELPING OTHERS, LET THE TAX SAVINGS HELP YOU… • Donations to charity are deducted directly from your taxes in the form of a credit applied against taxes payable. • This charitable tax credit reduces the amount of federal and provincial tax you may pay in the according year.

• Regardless of personal income, donations of equal size are credited equally. • The system rewards extra giving; the more you donate, the larger your tax credit.
