LIVE UNITED 2016-17 ANNUAL REPORT

Financial PEOPLE Project

Skagit Financial PEOPLE (Peers Empowering Others by Providing Leadership and Education) host financial education sessions with groups of Low-to-Moderate Income individual & families throughout Skagit County. Graduates receive a Skagit Asset Building Coalition certificate upon completion of the series, helpful for opening accounts at partner financial institutions. Last year, 6 peer leaders assisted 46 Skagitonians in improving their financial situations.

“Financial People project has provided a continuing opportunity for myself and fellow peer leaders to advocate for financial education while connecting with our community.” Peer Leader, Echo Arseneau Trained Peer leaders guide participants on accessing community resources, serving as critical liaisons to financial institutions and other organizations providing financial education.

These classes teach principles such as:

• Stabilized Housing • Financial Home • Children Savings Accounts (CSA) • Post-Secondary Education • Reduced Debt • Improved Credit

2016-17 Annual Report

President Lisa Janicki & Executive Director Debra Lancaster YOU, the donors, have helped build a positive and sustainable quality of life across Skagit County. This Annual Report is one way for you to learn about YOUR impact on the lives of children, families, and nonprofits across Skagit County. Together, we have a UNIQUE place in the nonprofit world.

Now more than ever, community members, policymakers, business leaders, nonprofits, and individuals are collaborating to affect change on a scale that no single organization can achieve on its own. We can accomplish more by sharing best practices and leveraging resources rather than duplicating services.

What binds us together is a powerful sense of belonging to each other, to shared goals, and to the communities we serve.

Giving to United Way makes good sense – and creates great outcomes.

~Thank You

This is what United Way is all about: We are greater than the sum of our parts, and we will ALL reap the rewards of the change we create together.
