University Côte d’Azur

Founded in 2015, the University Côte d’Azur aims at bringing together all stakeholders in higher education and research of the French Riviera. The French Government selected the University Côte d’Azur as winner of the “Plan d’Investissement d’Avenir 3”, which means that the University can now count itself amongst the «top 10» of the best French universities. UCA has structured its initiative of excellence in four programs, one of which is an educational program. It consists of creating intensive courses mainly at the Master level and introducing a new generation of diplomas: they are all multidisciplinary, call for new educational technologies, and are taught entirely in English with cohorts made up of 50% of international students. This booklet aspire to introduce this new generation of diplomas, which are all going to open in September 2018.

Tuition fees: 4000€*

As the worldwide capital of perfumery, the region of Grasse gathers all the elements of the industry and hosts long-standing expertise in the utilization of natural raw materials and the art of composing perfume. The entire value chain is present: the culture of aromatics and medicinal plants, the transformation and creation companies … All aspects are developed and processed in this territory, which generates approximatively 3000 jobs that are direct result of this industry. This program aims to prepare the future professionals to the expectations and challenges of the flavor and fragrance industry.

*The tuition fee may vary according to your residence status, namely if you are a resident of an EU country or of a country outside the EU. In addition, financial aid (need-based or meritbased scholarships) will be available to students, and other sources of funding will also be available through each training course.

Admission The program is open to different profiles: • Student with 180 validated ECTS in science, marketing, management or law • Professionals with working experience in the fields of flavor & fragrance Condition of admission: • English level attestation: TOEIC 815 OR IELTS 8 • Identity documents • Resume and cover letter • Transcripts translated in French OR English • Professional AND academic letter or reference

Innovative approach The entire program is based on acquiring fundamental knowledge and professional expertise in this industry. This transfer of knowledge is available through the Edhec Business School’s distance education e-learning experience which is delivered by professors and industry managers. This novel expertise is offered to the student with an optimum course structure through virtual classes, online courses, online exa.

UNESCO Chair "Perfume science: between traditions and innovations” The South-East of France and more particularly the region of Grasse is one of the highlights in the perfume industry worldwide. All the actors are involved: perfume plant producers, raw materials processing companies, odorant compounds synthesis, perfumers, teachers, trainers and researchers. The know-how associated with the perfumery professions represents a strong potential for innovation, from a societal point of view and human development. The association Patrimoine Vivant du Pays de Grasse has asked for recognition of the know-how related to perfume to the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Côte d’Azur University and the Nice – Sophia Antipolis University are very involved in this process. Thanks to an active teaching and research activity in the field of perfume sciences, the Université Cote d’Azur, requested by the Living Heritage Association of the Grasse region, wishes to invest in a university chair «Perfume science: Between traditions and innovations »

Master of Science (MSc) MARRES - SCIENCE, CONSERVATION & VALORIZATION OF THE MARINE RESOURCESÂ

Master of Science (MSc) MARRES - SCIENCE, CONSERVATION & VALORIZATION OF THE MARINE RESOURCES

Objectives Our interdisciplinary approach, combined with innovative learning methods, empowers students to become academic scientists, conservation specialists, entrepreneurs, or all of the above. Whatever their preference, graduates will be the open-minded specialists our societies need to solve current and emerging ocean-related challenges. To become such talented professionals, our students will: - acquire high-level scientific knowledge, develop critical thinking and adopt the scientific approach in any circumstance. - aid decision making by learning how to assess ecosystem health and environmental impacts of projects with up-to-date techniques and tools (EIA, GIS, etc.) and by adapting their communication to a targeted audience. - appraise current and emerging marine societal challenges, and possible solutions, taking into account the development level of a country. - become entrepreneurs by developing their skills in project management, business administration, marine legislation and intellectual property protection.

Program The innovative and interdisciplinary approach aims to comprehend the intertwined scientific, societal and economic aspects of the ocean. In MARRES, marine science combines with chemical engineering, legislation, digital tools and entrepreneurship. 10 cumulative months of internships, real-life and long-term projects developed with laboratories, NGOs, governments and companies will enable students to specialize in science, conservation or valorization of marine resources.

Future careers The M.Sc. MARRES program allows the students to continue to Ph.D. prgrams, as a prelude to their future academic career. Students will have the opportunity to develop local or international conservation projects. They may also work in the private sector, in modeling the marine environment, becoming project leaders, project managers, or auditors for organizations connected with environmental issues. Finally, they may become entrepreneurs by creating green (or blue) start-ups valorizing the countless marine resources that they will help to protect.

Master of Science (MSc) Modeling for neuronal and cognitive systems (Mod4NeuCog)

Admission Candidates should have a bachelor’s or an equivalent degree in mathematics, computer science, biology, psychology, electrical engineering, economics or linguistics. In addition, they will have to provide evidence of their ability to follow mathematical courses at a rapid pace (preparatory classes, double degree, syllabi of previous mathematics courses and evidence of good grades in these courses, recommendation letters, etc.). As a part of the application the candidates are asked to provide a motivation letter explaining their interest in neuroscience and cognition and a short description of a project they would like to develop. The project proposal is required for evaluation purposes and will not necessarily lead to a project used in the course of study. The admission is selective, based on the students’ application materials.

Tuition fees: 4000€* *The tuition fees may be reduced for EU citizens, depending on their circumstances. In addition, financial aid (need or merit based scholarships, or student employment) may be available.

MODELING FOR NEURONAL AND COGNITIVE SYSTEMS (ModNeuCog)

Master of Science (MSc) MODELING FOR NEURONAL AND COGNITIVE SYSTEMS (ModNeuCog)

Objectives Graduates will have acquired the basic knowledge in mathematics, statistics, computer science, biology and cognitive science needed to model neurocognitive systems. The projects and internships will enable the students to identify and explore their domains of interest. Most of the projects of will be conducted in those laboratories of the Université Côte d’Azur that are members of the NeuroMod core program: http://univ-cotedazur.fr/en/idex/projet-structurant/cauca. The areas of specialization include medicine, mathematics, linguistics, physics, experimental economics, psychology, computer science, neurophysiology and the chemistry of olfaction. Throughout the program the students will be confronted with interactions in all these fields, often via group work. This will give each student the opportunity to progressively make individual choices, develop autonomous thinking and work in an interdisciplinary setting. The internships of the second year will, in addition, foster international mobility as well as R&D work in the private sector.

Through its innovative approaches to mentoring, MoNeuCog aims to foster natural curiosity and autonomy in students. The goal is to develop active researchers at the interface of applied mathematics and cognitive sciences.

Program The first semester is dedicated to the basics. It starts with 5 intensive weeks of bootcamp (update training in mathematics, programming and experimental set-ups). One of the goals of the update program is to establish an efficient and independent working method and to become acquainted with the environment of OpenNeuroLab, which is designed to promote group work. The first semester continues with coursework and projects in one of two tracks: “Cognitive Science” and “Applied Mathematics”. The second semester is marked by a transition to more independent work. It’s mostly comprised of mini-projects, conceived and supervised in collaboration with laboratories of the Université Côte d’Azur. These projects will be carried out in groups in the OpenNeuroLab and in laboratories. In addition, (groups of) students will carry out a selfdesigned project, for which a small budget will be available, with the management of the budget comprising a part of the challenge. The second year is centered around two internships, with at least one either abroad or in a private company.
