The Université Côte d’Azur has fulfilled its mission The French university landscape has been significantly reshaped to create institutions capable of supporting international competition and featuring in the top world rankings. The Université Côte d’Azur is one of the 25 major French academic clusters that were created in 2014 and 2015. Its commitment is to strongly encourage the ambition for excellence of its members in terms of research, and to bring this dynamic to all training programs to meet international standards, thus making them more attractive, and furthermore to shift the paradigm for industry partnerships and student entrepreneurship. The Université Côte d’Azur now co-constructs its territory with public authorities and the Côte d’Azur socio-economic ecosystem. It has repositioned the University and its partners at the heart of this process.

Université Côte d’Azur in the future
• To become a world-class research institution with strong international visibility and attractiveness. • To strengthen the capacity of its members and partners to respond successfully to major national and international calls for proposals. • To favor excellence and innovation through new dynamics in education and research carried out within highly transdisciplinary projects. • To become a major player in the creation of start-ups and student entrepreneurship. • To promote academic cross-fertilization between its members and partners to transform the research and training potential of the region and thus accelerate its transformation. • To shift the paradigm of industry partnerships to accelerate the impact on high-stakes sites and amplify their performance, their international visibility and attractiveness, such as the current evolution of Sophia Antipolis, the OIN Ecovallée, the future European City of Health in Nice-East, the Bastide Rouge site in Cannes and the industrial center of Grasse.

The strategic objectives of the Université Côte d’Azur remain constant
The Initiatives of Excellence (IDEX), resulting from the Program for Investments in the Future (PIA), aim to provide significant resources to major French academic centres that are capable of acquiring a global dimension. The UCA JEDI project, for «Joint, Excellent and Dynamic Initiative», obtained this prestigious award in 2016 and the Université Côte d’Azur is now one of the 10 major French research universities within the 25 academic clusters. UCA JEDI is structured around five Academies of Excellence confirming the university’s transdisciplinary scientific ambition to serve 3 major societal challenges (Health, Well-being and Ageing / Digital Challenges / Intelligent Territory, Prevention and Risk Management), a Center of Modeling, Simulation and Interactions (MSI) and a Virtual Center for Pedagogical Innovation (CVIP).
The major French research universities will adopt innovative statutes that will enable them to perpetuate and expand the momentum created by the COMUE experience and to move on to a new stage in the process of integrating members into this new entity. The future Université Côte d’Azur will thus have the capacity: • to obtain full recognition for its new dimension in the major global rankings, • to consolidate its brand to differentiate itself from its competitors, • to structure its undergraduate training programs around a university college with increased capacity to personalize the path of each student and to thus reduce the risk of failure, • to structure its master’s degrees, doctoral schools and research within Graduate Schools of Research that are highly autonomous and internationally attractive, • to acquire an innovative economic model with the ambition to capture significant resources in the private sphere.
This transformation should come into effect at the start of 2020.
