Amelia Earhart was born in 1897, in Kansas, USA. When she was a child, she was really interested in things that were not very common for a girl. She used to read biographies and newspaper articles of successful women and was very inspired by them. Especially by the ones that were part of professions that were dominated by men.

She saw her first plane when she was 10 years old, but in 1920, she flew a plane with her family and her life changed completely. She became really interested in planes, engineering, and everything that had to do with it. Before that time, she worked helping as a nurse in a military hospital and then, she studied medicine at the university. Then, she found a teacher that could teach her how to fly a plane. She tried to find the best female teacher in the field and, with her help, she broke her first record. In 1922 she flew over 14,000 feet. That was the first time that a women got to that altitude. She worked as a social worker in Boston and spent her time dreaming of flying. One day, she received a phone call from pilot Wilmer Stultz inviting her to fly across the Atlantic. Then, she got married to George Putnam, an American publisher. He helped her write a book called ’20 Hours, 40 minutes’ where she told the whole story about her first flight across the Atlantic. She travelled around the country giving lectures about her flight and everything that she went through.

She was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic in 1932. She was the first woman to cross the Atlantic alone, and to cross it twice, as to make the longest non-stop distance for a woman and in the shortest time possible. She did a lot of things after that as for example write another book and keep doing lectures around the country. Also, she started her company of design to create clothes for active woman.

She tried again in 1937. The plane was flying well and the flight was going pretty well. When they left New Guinea, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, she and her plane disappeared in the middle of nowhere. There was a search team that went to try to find her. They didn’t find her or her plane. They spent a lot of time searching the area but it was impossible to find something. Amelia Earhart will be remembered as an amazing and accomplished woman.
