The site includes tips about scams aimed at students and how to report them, tips for your safety and how to report crime, harassment or if something feels wrong, where you can find support if you ever need it, plus training and more.

The Cost of Living site is your single stop to find out the support that the University and Students’ Union have put in place to help you to continue to succeed in your studies and enjoy your student experience.

This includes funding to help with unexpected financial hardships, technology and study equipment, and health and wellbeing, as well as other initiatives such as food offers and discounts.

There are a range of options to suit your needs: –

ɠ 2. Create and manage your account

If you are on a university computer:

– Log in using ‘subscribe’ as the username and password

Follow the screen prompts

If you are on your own device, go to: subscribe.soton.ac.uk

Select the option you want (create or manage your account, or reset your password)

You can access our university systems and services from anywhere in the world.

Be aware of potential cyber threats and access advice on how to keep yourself and university information safe.

ɠ 5. Log in to SUSSED

SUSSED is the University’s web portal with access to:

– Your email account – Blackboard

– Your faculty webpages

– University news and services

ɠ 6. Access email and Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 allows you to access your email, contacts, calendars and documents from virtually any device - anywhere you have an internet connection.

You can access your emails via: www.outlook.com

You can download Microsoft applications for free on up to five devices via: portal.office.com/account or from your mobile app store.

ɠ 7. Connect to the Wi-Fi

Our Wi-Fi network eduroam is available across campus and in halls of residence.

Log in with username@soton.ac.uk and your university password.

We also offer guest Wi-Fi for visitors through The Cloud.

ɠ 8. Get online in halls

You can connect to the internet from your room in halls of residence using an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.

Due to the authentication requirements of the eduroam connection, you may not be able to connect your printer, smart TV, or voice activated speaker/digital assistant such as SONOS.

ɠ 9. Bookmark Blackboard

Blackboard is used by many lecturers to share course content, including lecture slides, examples and reading lists.

ɠ 10. Locate computers on campus

You have access to approximately 2,000 computers within rooms across all campuses and in most halls of residence.

Log in and use these machines using your university username and password.

ɠ 11. Download software

We offer you a huge range of programs and software for free throughout your studies.

ɠ 12. Print, copy, scan

The ‘Follow Me’ print service allows you to print a document from any location and collect it on campus. These devices also provide photocopying and scanning facilities.

You can print to any university printer and have 24 hours to release and collect.

Your studies

As your learning environment may be different to what you are used to, make sure you are prepared for your studies ahead of the start of term. We have plenty of resources to help you manage your transition to university learning depending on where you are in your student journey.

Be prepared to attend your compulsory induction in-person where you can meet your Programme Lead when the academic year begins.

MyEngagement

You will need to record your attendance to any of your timetabled teaching. This is done through MyEngagement, an attendance tool that provides students and staff with information about student engagement with their programme.

MyEngagement is used to help provide support to students should your attendance decline.

To log your attendance, you will need to download the SEAtS Mobile app. MyEngagement uses the SEAtS Mobile app to capture attendance at timetabled sessions on your programmes, whether they are lectures, seminars, or online sessions.

Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise

Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise are here to support you to explore, develop and shape your future, whether you plan to get a job, start your own business, or continue your studies– or maybe you just can’t decide. Whatever stage you are at, we offer a wide range of opportunities throughout the academic year including work experience and placements, networking, events and workshops, employability resources, and one-to-one careers guidance and advice. You will also receive support from your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) to undertake the Successful Futures Pathway once a year. Find out more

Southampton Sport and Be Active

Sport at Southampton

Southampton Sport offers a wide range of state-of-the-art fitness and sports facilities in various locations, including the recent major multi-million pound upgrade to the Jubilee Sport and Recreation Centre on Highfield Campus, outdoor pitches and courts, and a Watersports Centre. There are loads of ways to get involved with courses and classes to enhance your wellbeing.

Memberships can be paid monthly or annually, with affordable and flexible plans available.

Be Active

You can also get involved with the University's Be Active programme throughout the year, with free sports sessions and activities taking place weekly across our campuses for all students. All levels of experience are welcome and all the equipment you will need is provided for you.

→ The annual summer Colour Run

The Faith and Reflection Centre and Residence Life

The

Faith and Reflection Centre

The Faith and Reflection Centre (FRC) on Highfield campus is open to all students across the University. Multi-faith, or no faith, you can visit the FRC to take part in one of the weekly events, explore your faith or simply find a place of quiet.

The Faith and Reflection Centre have a programme of free weekly events during term time open to all students, including toasties and board games.

Residence

Life

If you live in halls of residence, weekly free events and activities will be taking place on site.

You will have the opportunity to get to know your Residence Life Assistants for your halls of residence, who will be running the events and are a friendly face in common rooms to chat or ask questions to.

You can find the full timetable of events in the My Southampton app, as well as posters in your common room.

Getting around

From walking and cycling to buses and trains - there are a number of ways to get around the city and campuses.

Buses

The Unilink bus service connects all of our Southampton halls and main teaching campuses within the city, and you can access discounted tickets on the Unilink app.

If you live in Southampton Universitymanaged halls in Southampton, you will receive a Unilink bus pass.

For all bus passes, you will need to download the Unilink app using your University email address to activate them.

To use the bus pass, there will be a QR code within the app that you will just need to be scanned under the reader when you get on the bus. You don't need to tell the driver where you are going.

SUSU Safety Bus

The Safety Bus is a free service to help make sure you get home from venues on campus safely. Running every evening, during term time, from outside the Students' Union straight to your front door.

Bicycles and Scooters

We have bike sheds on our campuses and in halls. Remember to bring a good quality D-lock with you, and always lock your bike, even for a few minutes.

The City of Southampton has an e-scooter and bike rental scheme by Voi. There are docking stations at most halls, on campus, and around the city.

To use a Voi Scooter you must have a full provisional UK driving licence. They are a popular way of getting around but please make sure you drive them safely and dock them back in the docking stations.

We’re all about being green! It’s a journey but we are committed to improving ourselves, as well as lobbying the university to make sustainable changes and delivering on their sustainability strategy. Plus, being eco-friendly is just more fun!

Student Voice

We are here to represent the voice of every student at the University of Southampton. Every year hundreds of students are elected for roles from Sabbatical Officers to Course Reps at SUSU, enabling them to shape their university experience and be the voice of their fellow students.

What is a Sabb?

Sabbatical Officers (Sabbs) are voted in every year by students, and they are the voice for the student body on things that matter to them. They make sure things are running smoothly, and they’re there to support all the student officers and volunteers to keep everything on track.
