To qualify for no-cost listings a scholarship listed must be made available to UAA students to further their collegiate education and must meet both of the following criteria:

1. Specifically aviation related.

2. Available to assist students pursuing a degree in aviation at any member college or university of their choosing.

We do not distribute general scholarship opportunities that are not aviation specific (such as photography, dog owners, or pageants), and we do not list or distribute scholarships specific to non-collegiate aviation (general aviation). Nor do we publish scholarships requiring admission to a single college or university as an award criteria. Georgraphic residence, veteran status, gender, minority, or other applicant specific criteria are permittewd.

Introduction

The University Aviation Association (UAA) is a nonprofit organization that represents colleges and universities that offer academic degree programs in aviation at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

The purpose of this publication is to consolidate the publicly available information concerning collegiate aviation scholarships in one document. It is expected that the university aviation student, students’ parents, and faculty members, as well as prospective students and their parents, will find the information in this catalog useful.

In all, this publication describes how to obtain applications for over 200+ collegiate aviation scholarship awards with a total value of over one million dollars.

This scholarship listing is one of the many publications and services offered by the University Aviation Association. For more information, visit the UAA website at www.uaa.aero. The total number of scholarships and the amounts of scholarships listed in this catalog, while impressive, are a small part of the total financial aid possibilities available to college aviation students.

Through the collective expertise of our members, UAA plays a pivotal role in the advancement of degree granting aviation programs that represent all segments of aviation. A professional association & unifying voice for promoting and furthering aviation education as a collegiate academic discipline.

• Read the requirements and follow all directions paying attention to the details.

• If a certified transcript is required – be sure it is certified.

• Write a great essay AND keep essays within the specified word count.

• Don’t miss the deadline and start early.

• Make sure your application package is complete and ALL requested material is included. Incomplete application packages will not be reviewed.

• Do not include things that are not requested in the application – i.e. photos, videos, etc.

• Proofread and review thoroughly before submission and having a mentor review for completeness prior to submission.

• Don’t ignore small awards. Small awards can add up. Plus, the larger the award, the more competition you’ll face.

• Try, try again. Keep trying even if you don’t win a scholarship right away. Save copies of every application that you complete so you don’t have to start from scratch every time.

April Four (4) entry level corporate jet aircraft training scholarships awarded

Description

CAE, a worldwide leader in training for the civil aviation, defense and security and health care markets, will award up to four entry level corporate jet aircraft training scholarships in 2024. These scholarships will be awarded to four different students from, or recent graduates of, University Aviation Association member institutions. The aims of the scholarship are to: 1) Provide additional industry-based training opportunities for university aviation students. 2) To broaden the awareness of corporate aviation career paths among university aviation students. The scholarship will include initial training in an entry-level corporate jet (the type of aircraft subject to schedule availability) resulting in a type rating upon successful completion of the course. The applicant is responsible for all travel and housing related costs during the training.

Scholarship Criteria

Applicants must be candidates for, or have received an aviation-related Baccalaureate Degree from a University Aviation Association member institution. Current students must graduate no later than May 2024, or must have graduated with a Baccalaureate Degree not more than two years before May 2024. Applicants must have a minimum of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale overall cumulative grade point average. Applicants must possess a current 1st class medical, Commercial Pilot License with a multi-engine and instrument rating, and a Certified Flight Instructor rating with an instrument airplane endorsement. Applicants must have flown a minimum of 50 hours PIC or SIC within the previous 12 months. Applicants must have a minimum of 50 hours of multi-engine time. Applicants must be available for training during June, July, or August 2023 and must pay for their travel to CAE at DFW Airport, Texas, or another CAE facility, as needed. Recipients of this scholarship will be trained together as a crew of two on any entry-level corporate jet. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in corporate or business aviation by writing a 250-word essay on how this scholarship will fit into their plans to enter corporate/business aviation. This essay must demonstrate how the applicant will use the CAE SimuFlite Scholarship to pursue a flight-related career.

Description

The DeVore Freedom of Flight Scholarship offers college students an opportunity for initial flight training at schools with FAA Part 141 flight schools.

The Freedom of Flight Scholarship was established to honor Dr. DeVore for his contributions to aviation at the local and national levels. His interests have been in promoting aviation education for our youth and providing them with opportunities to enter into dynamic and rewarding careers in aviation. In September 2001, Dr. DeVore completed a solo flight in a single-engine aircraft that circumnavigated the contiguous 48 states; landing at 40 airports in 36 states to promote aviation scholarships.

Scholarship Criteria

Open to students entering as undergraduates in a collegiate aviation program; a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or graduate program. Must be admitted, and must be enrolled at the time the award is dispersed, to a University Aviation Association member institution with a Part 141 approved program. Community college and university applicants are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be admitted to, and undertaking, an aviation-related major. A minimum of 3.0 overall GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale. Submit an essay, 250–750 words, demonstrating a love of aviation and a commitment to flight training. Extracurricular involvement/community involvement may be considered. A recommendation letter from a faculty member from a UAA member institution supporting the candidate’s application for this scholarship. Students entering a collegiate Part 141 program as a Freshman may use recommendation letters from other sources.

The University Aviation Association annually awards a $500 scholarship to applicant who are enrolled in an aviation-related curriculum at a UAA member college or university, and have achieved sophomore status at the institution. The award will be made to U.S. Citizens without regard to gender, race, religion, or national origin.

Scholarship Criteria

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen. Applicant must be enrolled in and plan to continue a college curriculum leading to a two-year, fouryear, or post-graduate degree in the field of aviation. Proof of enrollment must be provided prior to distribution of award. At the time of application, the applicant must be officially enrolled in a UAA member institution in an aviation-related program. Member must have completed 30 or more credit hours (or the equivalent for Sophomore status) at the UAA institution and must include the institution’s UAA number with the application. No exceptions to this criterion. Credits must have been completed and on your transcript at the time of application. Applicant must have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The completed application must be accompanied by a 250-word typed, double-spaced paper on “How Can I Improve Aviation Education.” Please be direct and focused on the topic.

The Frasca family established this scholarship through the University Aviation Association (UAA) in the name of their son, Joseph Frasca. Joseph excelled as an undergraduate aviation student earning a reputation as a dedicated and competent scholar. His tireless efforts to promote and support aviation resulted in significant worldwide contributions to the industry and his abilities as an aerobatic pilot and ambassador of aviation provided many hours of enjoyment to thousands of people. Aim of Scholarship

The Joseph Frasca Excellence in Aviation Scholarship was established through the University Aviation Association to encourage others to reach the highest level of achievement in their aviation studies and awards $2,000. It is bestowed upon those who demonstrate a commitment and devotion to aviation in the tradition of Joseph Frasca.

Scholarship Criteria

Evidence of excellence in activities, studies, events, organizations, etc., related to aviation. Minimum of a 3.0 overall grade point average. FAA certification/qualifications in either aviation maintenance or flight. Involvement in aviation activities, projects, events, etc.; which will demonstrate an interest and an enthusiasm for aviation. Scholarship Criteria

Students are eligible to apply if they, their spouse, or their parent/guardian is an active A.A.E and a member of the the AAAE Regional Chapter. Under this program, “children” are defined as natural or legally adopted children, stepchildren, and legal wards supported wholly by the guardian, who is an active AAE member. A.A.E.s must be full-time employees of a public-use airport at the time of application. Recipients must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time course load at an accredited two-or four-year college/university or vocational/technical, in any course of study. If the applicant is the eligible A.A.E. or the spouse of an eligible A.A.E., they may be enrolled in a part-time course load. All awards are non-renewable, but applicants may reapply each year as long as they continue to meet the eligibility criteria.

The original “Glacier Pilot”, Bob Reeve is an undisputed legend in Alaska for the creation and management of his Airline, Reeve Aleutian Airways. A company that served wild Alaskan villages and remote islands for over 70 years. He knew better than anyone the skill, patience and effort required to manage pilots. The Rene Matos Memorial Scholarship was established in the name of a very motivated and dedicated man, who epitomized the dream to succeed, while helping others along the way. CAE, a worldwide leader in training for the civil aviation, defense and security and health care markets, will award up to four entry level corporate jet aircraft training scholarships in 2024. These scholarships will be awarded to four different students from, or recent graduates of, University Aviation Association member institutions. The aims of the scholarship are to: 1) Provide additional industry-based training opportunities for university aviation students. 2) To broaden the awareness of corporate aviation career paths among university aviation students. Scholarship Criteria

Applicants must be candidates for, or have received an aviation-related Baccalaureate Degree from a University Aviation Association member institution. Current students must graduate no later than May 2024, or must have graduated with a Baccalaureate Degree not more than two years before May 2024. Applicants must have a minimum of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale overall cumulative grade point average. The DeVore Freedom of Flight Scholarship offers college students an opportunity for initial flight training at schools with FAA Part 141 flight schools. The Freedom of Flight Scholarship was established to honor Dr. DeVore for his contributions to aviation at the local and national levels. His interests have been in promoting aviation education for our youth and providing them with opportunities to enter into dynamic and rewarding careers in aviation. In September 2001, Dr. DeVore completed a solo flight in a single-engine aircraft that circumnavigated the contiguous 48 states; landing at 40 airports in 36 states to promote aviation scholarships.

Scholarship Criteria

Open to students entering as undergraduates in a collegiate aviation program; a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or graduate program. Each year, Vertical Flight Foundation (VFF) scholarships are awarded to college students demonstrating an interest in pursuing engineering related careers in Vertical Flight Technology. Scholarship Criteria

A student does not need to be a member of the Vertical Flight Society, but we encourage you to explore the many benefits student membership can provide. High school students are not eligible. At the time of application (February 2022) applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student in a relevant engineering degree program at an accredited university. Technical disciplines relevant to complex aeronautics engineering or aviation systems, even if not considered, vertical lift engineering will receive equal consideration. A student can receive an award once an Undergraduate, once a Master’s student, and once a Graduate student. In order to qualify for consideration of the scholarship, an applicant must demonstrate a detailed interest and appreciation on the importance of affordability and how it might be improved within the Vertical Flight community. Nancy Miller Livingston Stratford flew 50 different aircraft in World War II and went on to accumulate some 8,500 hours. Applicants must: Be between the ages of 16 and 23; Be a full-time student in High School, College, or an enlisted member of any service enrolled in school full-time; Understand they are volunteering for a scholarship to a public flight school contracted by the United States Air Force. College applicants must be currently enrolled in AFROTC or the United States Air Force Academy to be qualified. There is no military service commitment or obligation, nor does program completion justify acceptance to military service. Applicants must be at least 16 years old by 1, June, 2022, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) to submit a package or be nominated. To accomplish this, applicants must include a rotation of 3 segments every day; which include flight simulator time, academic classroom time (white board and lecture lesson style), and flight time. The students will be assigned into flights and be assigned a wingman within that flight, to study and fly with throughout their time during the program. When students aren’t in structured flight time, the additional hours of the day will be filled with mentorship with their flight commanders and other staff, studying to prepare for the next day, character development, and supplemental “tips and tricks”. Tips and tricks include chair flying, Emergency Procedure practice, and how to conduct “stand ups” to name a few. (Stand ups are the daily briefs conducted by aviators to inform members about daily weather, any NOTAMs, and can include an EP and other relevant information.)

Don and Carol Bedford were a team. Don had earned his Airframe and Power License and was well on the way to a degree in aeronautical engineering, when he felt impelled to join the workforce at Lockheed Aircraft at the outbreak of WWII. Don later joined the Army Air Corps where he eventually joined the Aviation Cadet program. He was transitioning to fighters when the war ended. He returned to Lockheed where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Tony LeVere, Howard Hughes, and worked on the P-80 program. In 1947, Don took a job with Alaska Coastal Airlines in Juneau. He stayed through a series of mergers, to retire from Alaska Airlines in 1993. Carol was from the Chicago area where she attended business school. She traveled to Alaska on a whim, and took a job at Alaska Airlines where the two met. Don was one of the first authorized inspectors in Southeast Alaska, an area where he remained active throughout the rest of his life.

AHFA is a robust 3 week Flight Academy structured to ensure students learn everything necessary to achieve up to 15 flight hours and potentially complete their first solo flight by the conclusion of the academy.

Description

Students must complete the application online at aimhighflightacademy.com, and have parental/legal guardian signed approval (if under 18). Additionally, students must have an endorsement from their high school principal or counselor, verifying they’re an enrolled student, their GPA, and are in good standing as well as an endorsement from a nominating organization. Scholarship Criteria

Applicants must: Be between the ages of 16 and 23; Be a full-time student in High School, College, or an enlisted member of any service enrolled in school full-time; Understand they are volunteering for a scholarship to a public flight school contracted by the United States Air Force. College applicants must be currently enrolled in AFROTC or the United States Air Force Academy to be qualified. There is no military service commitment or obligation, nor does program completion justify acceptance to military service. Applicants must be at least 16 years old by 1, June, 2022, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) to submit a package or be nominated. To accomplish this, applicants must include a rotation of 3 segments every day; which include flight simulator time, academic classroom time (white board and lecture lesson style), and flight time. The students will be assigned into flights and be assigned a wingman within that flight, to study and fly with throughout their time during the program. When students aren’t in structured flight time, the additional hours of the day will be filled with mentorship with their flight commanders and other staff, studying to prepare for the next day, character development, and supplemental “tips and tricks”. Tips and tricks include chair flying, Emergency Procedure practice, and how to conduct “stand ups” to name a few. (Stand ups are the daily briefs conducted by aviators to inform members about daily weather, any NOTAMs, and can include an EP and other relevant information.)

This scholarship is made possible by a bequest from Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Judith Burgstein, in memory of their devoted son and AFA Lifetime Member, Colonel Aaron Burgstein. The scholarship was established for minor dependents of Active Duty, retired, or prior service members of all branches, reservists or National Guard members who are/will be pursuing a two or four-year degree at an accredited college/university. Description

Nancy Miller Livingston Stratford flew 50 different aircraft in World War II and went on to accumulate some 8,500 hours in 103 different types. At 23, she was one of the first American women to become a ferry pilot for the British Air Transport Auxiliary. After WWii, Nancy earned her seaplane and helicopter wings, and owned Livingston Helicopters in Alaska. She is the second licensed woman commercial helicopter pilot in the USA and fourth in the world. Her memoir, “Contact! Britain: A woman ferry pilot’s story during WWII in England!” published in 2011. This year she celebrated her 99th birthday and the San Diego 99s honor her with this scholarship.

The Northwest Section Scholarship fund was created in 2013 from funds that the Section held in investment accounts. The scholarship is awarded annually for $1,000 or the amount requested, whichever is less. Sponsored by Robinson Helicopter Company (RHC), this scholarship provides a Whirly-Girl currently flying Robinsons the opportunity to attend the R66 Safety Course and build R66 time. RHC provides this 3.5-day course in Torrance, CA, USA; which includes an hour of flight with a safety instructor, and sponsors an additional 4 hours of R66 flight time (5 hours total R66 flight time). The course includes 3.5_days of classroom instruction in the following subject areas: accident review, causes of fatal accidents, awareness training, SFAR 73, Pilot’s Operating Handbook (POH) review, R66 systems, and the Rolls Royce engine. One day is devoted to maintenance, pre-flight inspections, and flying with an experienced RHC safety pilot. A tour of the Robinson Factory is also included. The course is open to any rated helicopter pilot who has at least 3 hours in any type of Robinson helicopter model, one hour of which was flown within 30 days prior to attending the course. Description

Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree, who demonstrate a superior academic record conducting research applied to aerospace engineering or space sciences are eligible. It is imperative that students be registered in a full-time Ph.D./doctoral program and have completed at least one year of that program, or have received a master’s degree in an aerospace-applied field at the time the application is submitted.

Scholarship Criteria

Must not be attending high school currently. Restricted to students studying Aviation/Aerospace, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Earth Science, or Mechanical Engineering. Applicants must not graduate from their Ph.D. or doctoral program before April 2023. Please note that post-doctoral research programs are not eligible for the Fellowship. Classified members (club members and individuals with direct membership with Zonta International) and employees of Zonta International and the Zonta Foundation for Women, and their family members (ancestors, descendants, adoptees, siblings, nieces or cousins, and those of their spouse or cohabiting partner), are not eligible to apply for the Fellowship. Note that previous Amelia Earhart Fellows are not eligible to apply to renew the Fellowship for a second year.

The University Aviation Association offers students and faculty the opportunity to interact with aviation industry leaders and members of Congress during the 2024 UAA Aviation Policy Seminar. Registration Fee is $250. Scholarships available for both students and faculty. This seminar is recommended for juniors, seniors, graduate students, and faculty with a background in aviation management.

• Students and faculty facilitators will spend three days in the nation’s capital attending briefings & seminars from the NTSB, the FAA, Congressional staff, and industry associations such as NBAA,RAA, A4A

• Students will be able to network with others from across the country and gain valuable exposure to leaders in these organizations

• Students will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of how these agencies interact in establishing aviation policy and what job opportunities may be available in the aviation industry
