It’s New York or nowhere. In a city that never sleeps, the fashion doesn’t either. Need outfit inspo? Take inspiration right off the streets of New York. When it comes to fashion, it truly is all about what feels right to you. There will of course be the fashion pioneers who will be bold enough to take on new trends and explore their individuality in that space and then there will be the followers who will take note from the “trend setters.” When it comes down to it, fashion is self expression, and in a city like New York, the great thing is NO ONE CARES what you wear or don’t wear. You can be your complete total self and be accepted. With that being said, we do love taking inspiration from others. Here is a snapshot of what people are wearing in the greatest city in the world right now.

Corset Tops

We all saw corset tops over the summer so it’s nothing new, but nothing can be better than an ongoing trend you wear with your favorite pair of jeans. Today, corsets still attain small design notions from their historical significance. Of course, now corsets are much more comfortable to wear and casual. We are seeing people on the streets of New York pair them with button-downs or loose-fitting jeans to cinch in and trace the shape of their figures.

Pantsuits

Ugh as if! How clueless would we have to be to not be taking notes from our style icon Cher? Pantsuits have been seen on the streets of New York as a staple. These matching sets are easy to throw on and you will still feel like a fashion forward icon.

Chunky Loafers

The Nineties and early 2000’s have been ruling the fashion scene for quite some time now. These are a classic pair of shoes that will essentially never go out of style because they are literally just black shoes. Prada took the forefront of this trend and kicked it off with their classic chunky loafers that we all know today, but there are many brands that have also adopted this new trend. Chunky loafers were seen all throughout New York Fashion Week street style. Alongside a pair of jeans or mini skirt or a sweater, this look has probably already popped up on your instagram.

Tailored Vests

Ditch the sleeves. Yes, we are talking about the suit vest. Although we will never let go of the oversized blazer that gives us that girl boss look, we are wearing a slight moderation. Of course, we are still girl bosses, just without the sleeves, because who needs sleeves to hold us down? Menswear-inspired pieces can be sexy and feminine, especially if you wear nothing underneath.

Leather Jackets

No item is as iconic and crucial to have in a wardrobe as a leather jacket. There cannot be enough emphasis on the fact that everyone needs a leather jacket. New York City is getting colder. As it gets colder, the statement jackets come out of hiding from the back of our summer closets. The classic leather jacket is the perfect city girl chic piece that allows you to layer down or layer up. If you’re Going out in the East Village, you can now bundle up with a leather jacket. That way you don’t have to risk hypothermia for the sake of fashion.

Funky Colorful Sweaters

Of course, a neutral knit will always be essential in your wardrobe. We have seen many designers this season and people on the streets of New York prove that the brighter the sweater the better. House Of Sunny has some iconic bright patterned print sweaters to choose from. In a city of millions, it means something to stand out. Everyone is channeling their inner Harry Styles and pulling out their chunkiest, colorful combo sweaters to bundle up as they are walking down Fifth Avenue.

Baggy Jeans

We all know skinny jeans have seen their days and hopefully will never come out from the back of our closet where we hid them. Now, we are giving our legs some room because the bigger the better. Over the past year and a half we have dressed for comfort. This makes sense why as we are stepping back out into the world we want to take some of that comfort with us. We see big jeans styled in a variety of chic ways with a pair of Zara strappy heels or your classic Nike Air Forces. It is now all about big jean energy! Fashion is all about being a fun way to express yourself. You can pick and choose what trends match your personal style and wardrobe. We often look to New York street style for fashion inspiration because it just happens to be the fashion capital of the world. No big deal. Fashion is an integral part of life when living in New York because everything from fashion week to major brand events are happening all around you all the time. It only makes sense to take some style notes from what people are wearing on the streets.
