GINA’s role in year 1 EPSCoR • Geospatial Data Management • Identify and begin acquiring and in integrating 1950s, 1980s, 2000s Imagery for change detection • New data acquisitions of LiDAR and Imagery • Cyberinfrastructure planning and deployment of Flexible Service Storage Nodes • Setup of Project Catalogs with gLynx • Work with Polar Geospatial Center to make the high resolution commercial satellite imagery archive available over each test case
Satellite Remote Sensing • Statewide Imagery • High resolution • Historical and time series
Aerial Remote Sensing • LiDAR – elevation • Allows hydro-modeling • Imagery - Historical
Water Sensors • USGS In-stream Data Loggers In-situ Sensors • MET Sensors
Open Data Services • Datasets available to public via open web standards streaming services • GINA providing open web interfaces to geospatial data • Acquired Polar Geospatial Center high-resolution satellite imagery Aerial imagery for Kenai Peninsula from 1950’s, 1980’s, 2013
Large gridded sets to manage • NTC – New LiDAR & Aerial Imagery in 2013 • SCTC – New Aerial imagery in 2013 expanding on existing Imagery • Historical Imagery for each test case • High resolution Satellite Imagery in partnership with Polar Geodata Center • Plus future vector layers being generated and sensor streams coming online
Infrastructure Improvement • Flexible Service Storage Nodes – Deployed at local test case in Anchorage and Juneau – Provides local storage and virtual machine capacity – Provides focal point for data replication back to Fairbanks core infrastructure – Data replicated and archived at ARSC and available for use on PacMac compute cluster
Flexible Service Storage Nodes FSSN deployed at UAA (bonus 10GigE)
Flexible Service Storage Node UAS – Southeast
Enterprise Linux 65 TB storage KVM virtual machines 128 GB RAM LVM for storage allocations and snapshots 24 processor cores
FSSN
Virtual Machine Servers: • ArcSDE Geospatial Server • Postgresql Geospatial Database Server • File Server (Network File Shares) for local users • FTP/HTTP distribution points
A cyberinfrastructure win • Broke the mold for how to deploy and integrate infrastructure across all three campuses • Increased capacity for the future of the project • Capacity already recognized by State and Federal partners and being built upon for additional efforts : Statewide Hydro Network
gLynx Geospatial Data Management Catalog and Portal
Data management – gLynx gLynx – Statewide Geospatial Catalog for Data Coalition • Indexing • Archiving • Visualization • Discovery • Authorization & Distribution • Portal & Content Management System
gLynx for EPSCoR-ACE Adopted by Southcentral Testcase early as focal point for outreach and collaboration with project partners Adopted by Southeast and Northern and finally by central EPSCoR Development effort funded by EPSCoR inspired adoption by state agency partners
Data Management: Geographic Information Network of Alaska (GINA) Catalog and Portals
gLynx : Portal • Content management system tied to the data catalog and web mapping capacity • Allows a project to have their own identiy, partners, and focused data set collections and discovery • Central backend allowing others to incorporate data curation efforts • Initially funded by NSSI – now development spread across variety of sources (EPSCoR, AEA, ALCC)
gLynx : Data Manager • Authentication and identity through multiple methods including Google Auth, OpenID, and individual accounts • Authorization per portal – allow researchers and project partners control content, data records, data collections, metadata that handles restricted and licensed dataset authorization • Data collections of related datasets or focused topics to help users search, browse, and discover on focused topics
gLynx : Web Map • Geospatial Map Search • Zoom to area of interest to discover available datasets or projects • GINA focuses on service end points using OGC and REST to serve data into gLynx – making the data available for inclusion into other web map applications – for example: – NOAA’s Arctic ERMA , State of Alaska DNR, DGGS, and Alaska Energy Authority all users of end points in their web applications.
