YOU’RE SMART. YOU’RE SAVVY. YOU CAN REACH ANY SUMMIT.
YOU WERE BORN TO EXPLORE. YOU’VE GOT SKILLS TO MASTER, RECORDS TO SET AND DISCOVERIES TO MAKE. HERE, YOU’LL FORGE FRIENDSHIPS TO LAST A LIFETIME AND IDEAS TO CHANGE THE WORLD.
Pat Terhune, a geology major, pauses while working on a research project near the Chedotlothna Glacier in Denali National Park.
This is where you belong.
Whether you’re an outdoors or indoors enthusiast, you’ll find what’s right for you. With 10 sports teams and 155 student clubs, there’s always something going on, in the sun, rain or snow, seven days a week.
Extremes rule here.
24-hour sunshine in June, 30 below in January. Winter’s for sledding, ice climbing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding on our very own terrain park. Then goodbye snow and hello mud volleyball, rock wall, disc golf and trails!
COMMUNITY
WILDERNESS TRIPS. MIDNIGHT PANCAKES. NANOOK TRADITIONS.
Get social.
STUDENT LIFE STARTS HERE CONCERTS. BONFIRES. WATERMELON DROPS.
College is more than classes and exams. It’s also friendships and shared experiences. Concerts, comedies and just hanging out. It’s celebrating Nanook Traditions like the Starvation Gulch bonfires and letting off some end-of-semester steam during SpringFest.

Students cheer as Theophilus London performs at a concert in the Student Recreation Center during the 2013 SpringFest activities.
Home for now.
Dorm life lets you wake up, pour a quick bowl of cereal, maybe shoot some pool and get to class. Then head to Wood Center, the living room of campus, where UAF students are constantly inventing, and reinventing, campus culture.

ACADEMICS AND RESEARCH
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH GRANTS. STUDY ABROAD. HONORS PROGRAM.
Create an artificial aurora borealis, like physics major Haley Nelson. Get political in the state capital, as rural development major Malorie Johnson did. Make a statement, like art major Ian Wilkinson.
Adventure is inevitable.
Undergrads get outside the classroom and they get to make a mess. They breach boundaries and create something new. This is where theory meets practice, and where hands-on experience gets its place in the sun.
