You will check into your luxury Edinburgh hotel for your 2-night stay. With a central location surrounded by so many key sights, just outside your front door are places such as the Edinburgh Castle and Old Town area among many others.
DAY 2: BEST OF EDINBURGH
This morning enjoy this Old Town Edinburgh Tour with a local historian and learn all about the city’s history. Trace the Royal Mile that runs between the Palace of Holyroodhouse, official residence of the Queen and the Castle. This part of the city is crammed with old mansions and other landmarks that provide the perfect backdrop for an examination of social history, political intrigue, and possibly even ghost stories. This walk is perfect for first timers, or those looking to develop a more comprehensive view of the city.
DAY 3: ON TO ST. ANDREWS
Take the train from Edinburgh north to St Andrews, the famed seaside town known for its historic golf courses. Check in to your boutique hotel located in the heart of the town where you will be surrounded by the historic charm of this Scottish gem. St Andrews has also become one of the most romantic stops in Scotland, and is where Prince William met Kate Middleton in 2001.
DAY 4: FIFE PENINSULA & FISHING VILLAGES
There is something for everyone on this tour, be it history, food, culture, scenery, or even some scoop on the Royal family! Today, your expert driver guide will take you around St. Andrews, as well as the charming East Neuk of Fife, loved for its colorful fishing villages. You will stop in Anstruther, home to “The Secret Bunker,” a Cold War relic deemed to be one of Scotland’s best kept secrets. While here you won’t want to miss Anstruther Fish Bar for some of Scotland’s best fish and chips. You will also visit Crail, a 13th century village known for being one of Scotland’s most beautiful villages with narrow streets, a small harbor, and stunning views of the North Sea.
DAY 5: ST. ANDREWS
Today is at your leisure to enjoy exploring St Andrews on your own. St Andrews is much more than the Home of Golf. You can explore the grounds of the ancient University, as well as the photogenic ruins of the ancient Castle and Cathedral. No trip to St Andrews is complete without a visit to the Old Course, where the best photo opportunity is on the famous Swilcan Bridge. Nearby is West Sands Beach, famous for an iconic scene from Chariots of Fire.
DAY 6: SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS
Hop on the train to head to the Scottish Highlands for your stay in Inverness. Check into your centrally located boutique hotel which will put you close to all that the compact city of Inverness has to offer. Take a stroll along the banks of the River Ness, view the stunning St Andrew’s Cathedral or visit the red-sandstone Inverness Castle.
DAY 7: ADVENTURING OUTSIDE INVERNESS Let your driver guide whisk you from Inverness into the stunning countryside, where you will explore some of the scenic and history-rich highlights in the area. Begin with a visit to Culloden Battlefield, the site of the last land battle fought on British soil back in 1745. Your guide will share tales of this era, and how this shaped the Highlands of today. Located nearby is the Bronze Age cemetery and standing stones of Clava Cairns which also inspired Diana Gabaldon’s “Craigh na dun” in the hit Outlander series. Be careful touching the stones just in case they throw you back in time as they do in her books! Afterwards, travel to romantic Cawdor Castle, famed for its literary connection to Shakespeare’s Macbeth and beautiful gardens. Depending on time spent at each site there may also be time for an additional stop such as Tomatin Distillery or a scenic drive along the coast.
DAY 8: DEPARTURE Sadly, your Scotland trip comes to an end today. Pack up all your souvenirs, enjoy a final breakfast before meeting your driver in the lobby of the hotel for your private transfer to the Inverness airport.
