Profiles Kirstie Lee Eells BA (Hons) Fashion Design student

Kirstie has just started her final year of her Fashion Design course and has begun working on her final collection. “I am looking forward to seeing my collection! It’s been spoken about for so long and I spend so much time thinking about it, and now it’s finally here. It’ll be exciting to see what the rest of the class’s collections turn out like, and see who will be chosen to show at Graduate Fashion Week!” “Our Fashion course is open minded with broad assessments allowing us the freedom to explore our creativity. All of our tutors specialise in different areas such as pattern cutting or surface design, and working with each of these tutors separately throughout different modules allows you to be experimental when working out what you truly enjoy and excel at”.

Kirstie also took up the optional placement year which gave her a real taste of working in the fashion industry. “I went to Paris to work at John Galliano for 6 months followed by 4 months at Walter Van Beirendonck in Antwerp. The industry year made available to us is one of the most beneficial parts to your current work and future career, which some universities do not offer. We also have guest lecturers come in to share their knowledge. The area we work in has a good atmosphere and there is plenty of space, with machines and resources such as screen printing, digital printing and laser cutting and a brilliant library.”
