International Students’
QUARANTINE GUIDE
On behalf of the University of East London we want to say WELCOME! As your academic institution, we are delighted that you are joining us. We understand that as a student travelling from outside of the UK, your arrival hasn’t been a typical one. Therefore, we have put safety measures in place, in order to help you have the smoothest transition to the UK. In this document, you will find useful information to ensure that you are familiar with the UK requirements, to minimise the spread of the virus.
Quarantine is a period of self-isolation, people arriving from outside of the UK are required to undertake, in order to stop the spread of infection. When you arrive in the UK, you may not be allowed to leave the accommodation in which you are staying for the first 14 days. This will apply to anyone travelling to the UK, unless you’re arriving from an exempt country. Please be sure to double check your country has not been added to the quarantine list, at the time of travel.
WHAT IS QUARANTINE? The purpose of the quarantine period is to help contain the spread of COVID-19, which can take up to 14 days to appear in the form of symptoms. The UK Government have said, they will carry out some spot checks to ensure self-isolation is being carried out, and penalties will be in place for those who do not comply. Please ensure you read this guide, keep up with the UK government website, and familiarise yourself with any rules surrounding quarantining on and off-campus.
HOW TO STAY SAFE DURING QUARANTINE As a university we are committed to the safety of our students. This has been especially true in recent times, where we have found ourselves adapting our teaching styles in order to give you the best university experience, whilst keeping your health and safety, our top priority. This year we will host students from around the world, which will require and additional set of precautions, like quarantining, to minimise the spread of COVID-19. The quarantine period here in the UK, is to be taken seriously, to ensure a safe transition back to physical campus life. If a student breaks the quarantine guidelines, they will be subjected to a fine. To help you during this period we created a list of Do & Don’ts for you to follow during your selfisolation period.
