welcome to exeter! We hope you have an enjoyable time living in the residences. Our living community is culturally diverse and we aim to create a welcoming, supportive environment where everyone is included and treated equally. WHO ARE THE RESIDENCE LIFE TEAM (RLT)? The Residence Life Team is part of the Welfare Team at the University, here to provide support, guidance and advice to students living in residences. Our team of Residence Life Mentors are students offering peer support through visits and drop-ins. We also run a programme of social events to help build community within our residences. Your Residence Life Team will arrange to meet with you in groups in the first couple of weeks to make sure you have all the information you need about living in residences.

Who do I talk to about moving rooms and my accommodation contract The Accommodation Office Team can be contacted via the Student Information Desk (SID). They offer drop-in and virtual sessions throughout the term, Monday – Friday. For details see exeter.ac.uk/accommodation/contact/ accommodationteam or contact SID.

/ I’ve got a problem – something is not working something is broken in my room/flat Report any faults to reception as soon as possible. Make sure you complete your Room Condition Form and record any general wear and tear that you feel needs mentioning within seven days of arrival. Don’t worry – there are no charges for general faults.


What’s included in my Insurance cover? The university provides students with basic insurance cover. For more details and to contact our insurance provider visit the Residence Information web pages. How do I recycle? There are plenty of rubbish and recycling bins inside and outside your accommodation for you to recycle or throw away your rubbish. It’s a team effort so talk to your flatmates and draw up a schedule. There are British Heart Foundation donation points throughout university residences for items that can be reused. Ask at your residence reception where the nearest donation point is.

Cleaning – what am I responsible for? ou are responsible for keeping your accommodation clean. Look out for the Service Y Agreement notices in the communal area where you live. You can borrow cleaning equipment if you need to, which will be in your flat or in a nearby utility room.

How do you keep me informed of what’s going on? The Residences Reception Team will always let residents know when there are planned changes to any of the services in your accommodation, e.g. maintenance, cleaning schedules and will send relevant information to your university email account. You can also check the Accommodation blog or Facebook page (exeteruniaccommodation) for news and information. blogs.exeter.ac.uk/accommodation

Where do I collect my mail from? Your mail and parcels are typically delivered to your Reception. For specific details on delivery arrangements go to exeter.ac.uk/accommodation/students/currentstudents/resinfo Please make sure you have your Uni card when collecting your mail.

Where can I store my bike? Bicycle stores are available for current residents. Please contact your residence reception in order for your bike to be logged and tagged before storing in the designated locations. exeter.ac.uk/sustainability/campusmap

When does the fire alarm testing happen? There are notices to tell you when fire alarm testing will happen. Outside of alarm testing times when the fire alarm sounds you must evacuate the building and go to the fire assembly point – make sure you read the fire notice in your bedroom. Estate Patrol will arrive to respond to the activation and tell residents when it’s safe to go back inside. Read the fire safety posters in your bedrooms on how to avoid setting the fire alarm off.

How can I help to keep campus safe and secure? Leave your window, bedroom and entrance doors locked when you are out and keep your living area secure at all times. If you discover anything that is broken report it to Reception. Stay in groups where possible at night and do not let people you don’t know into your accommodation. If you do have any security concerns, report them immediately to Estate Patrol. Download the SafeZone App exeter.ac.uk/about/speakout/staysafe/safezone

Who are Estate Patrol? Estate Patrol are a mobile response service at the University, offering security, safety and welfare support. If you wish to report a crime, suspicious or anti-social behaviours, e.g. excessive noise, they will respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. They can give you advice on what to do, making sure you feel safe and secure. They also monitor all of the University’s CCTV.

Where can I spend time with friends? There are social spaces situated in or close to your residence where you can watch TV, work in groups or just relax. If you are not sure where the nearest common room is, just ask at reception.

Catered Students Meal Times Times for catered students: • Breakfast: Monday – Friday 7:30am – 9:30am • Continental Breakfast: Saturday 8:00am – 10:30am and Sunday 8:30am – 10:30am • Brunch: Saturday and Sunday 11:00am – 1:00pm • Dinner: Monday – Sunday 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Where can I do my laundry?

There will be a laundrette close to your accommodation; all the washing machines and dryers are networked circuit.co.uk or if you live in UPP managed accommodation or at Rowancroft, visit washstation.co.uk Download the Washstation / Circuit Laundry App to use the washing machines. There are irons and ironing boards in your flat or in a nearby utility room.

How do I get out and about? Our Exeter campuses and halls of residence are within easy walking distance of the city centre. There are plenty of good public transport links as well as cycle friendly routes. Damage, Disruption and Distress To preserve a positive spirit in the Residence Community everyone is expected to treat each other with respect and dignity. Any incidents that involve damage, disruption or distress to the property or to others is a breach of your accommodation contract. There will be a fair investigation procedure using the university’s disciplinary process, to identify how incidents have occurred and who is involved.
