WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY ABOUT
THE UNIVERSITY OF EXETER BUSINESS SCHOOL There’s a certain energy about studying at the Business School, and a lot of that comes from the quality of the teaching staff, they go out of their way to get us involved with the lectures and push us to do the best we can.
The best things about studying at the Business School are that they have a great diversity, amazingly supportive members of staff, talented students and, they will always try to improve the academic experience of the students.
Arsalan Hashmi, MSc Marketing
Viet Huynh, MSc Accounting and Finance
I now have a clearer idea of where my career is heading, but coming here has changed my attitude to life as well. For me, management is a human behaviour, so what I have learnt on this Masters is not only useful for my future career, it has helped me to learn more about people and how to interact with them.
I think the contact with people and the personal skills you gain along the way is one of the most valuable aspects of studying at a business school of this quality and diversity. On my course, people from different academic and cultural backgrounds study together, cooperate and solve problems together.
Hao Ziyi, MSc International Management
Chen Sixin, MSc Financial Analysis and Fund Management
I feel lucky to have come to the Business School just as the Streatham Court campus was being redeveloped. We are fortunate to have access to many excellent facilities, including group work rooms and silent study rooms and we have access to the latest financial databases – something I know isn’t the case in every business school.
I have enjoyed my time immensely at the Business School. I chose to come here initially owing to the University’s growing reputation for excellence – both in teaching and in research – and also because the South West is such a wonderful part of the country to live in.

ABOUT US
www.business-school.exeter.ac.uk/postgraduate
It has taken just over a decade to establish the University of Exeter Business School as one of the UK’s leading centres of business education and research.
We have achieved this by striving to be the best we can be, bringing together inspirational and internationally respected business teachers from around the world in an environment that combines historical and intellectual heritage with modern facilities. In September 2013 we were delighted to be awarded EQUIS accreditation, the world’s leading business school accreditation, for the first time. We intend to seek further accreditations, at both school and individual programme levels, to ensure that our programmes continue to be relevant to the needs of the business world and enhance student employability. Whichever course options you elect to take you will be led by highly motivated teaching staff engaged in cutting-edge research that is helping to shape the world around us. Our teaching is genuinely research-led, which means you will study and learn with the experts, with internationally respected academics who publish in leading journals and are helping to shape business thinking in their chosen fields. I came to Exeter from Russia in 2007, first to study a Diploma in Management and to learn academic English, and then to do a Masters in Financial Economics. Following my Masters I worked for Thomson Reuters on an unpaid summer internship in their Exeter offices, before joining their Commodities and Energy desk in London, where I’m working now. I work with international financial institutions across Europe and Asia, who invest in commodities and energy. Essentially, our clients use our products to follow the financial markets – and we help them do that in the most effective way to extract the information they want, whether that’s prices for oil, or sugar or gold. For me, university was about tapping into the opportunities on offer. For example, I very much enjoyed hearing from the guest speakers, organised by the Business School. I remember once I had a chance to meet Kostya Novoselov, who won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2010. Meetings like this widen your horizons, regardless of your professional area. I also learnt a lot of skills at Exeter, which have come in very useful. Interacting with people from different backgrounds, being an efficient team player and networking – are all things I make use of now. I learnt to swim at Exeter too – and I also took a language course in Chinese, which was an absolutely new experience for me.
Work hard, it will pay off in the end. Dmitry Pak, MSc Financial Economics (Commodities and Energy Associate, Thomson Reuters)
My philosophy is ‘Work hard, it will pay off in the end’. Don’t chase after money, focus on finding yourself as a professional, money isn’t an issue when you enjoy what you do. And never give up, because the cream always rises to the top.

AWAY FROM THE CLASSROOM
Masters programmes involve a lot of commitment, dedication and hard work and, as well as the hours you will spend in lectures and seminars, you will also be required to spend a lot of time studying outside of the classroom. It is therefore important that you make the most of your spare time and you will find plenty of things to get involved in at the University of Exeter and in the local area.
Students’ Guild The Students’ Guild is run by students for students and as well as offering support, advice and representation for all students, the Guild oversees lots of recreational activities that students enjoy. Nearly 200 different student societies and clubs are affiliated to the Guild and through these you can get involved in, amongst other things, sports, the arts, outdoor activities and volunteering. Societies and clubs are one of the best ways of getting to meeting people so for more information about the Students’ Guild, visit: www.exeterguild.org/
Exeter and the surrounding area Exeter is not a typical UK city, and this is one of its greatest strengths. It has structures that are over 500 years old sitting next to modern retail and recreational buildings, has a population of only 120,000
people and yet has facilities that a much larger city would be proud of. The University campus is within easy walking distance of the City Centre and you will find all that you need conveniently located in a very compact area, with the inspiring medieval Cathedral as a focal point just off the main shopping street. If you want to explore the surrounding countryside, and we recommend that you do, then Dartmoor and the beautiful Devon coastline are easily accessible by public transport. As an Exeter student, you will be surrounded by some of the most popular tourist destinations and attractions in the UK!
Accommodation We have a range of accommodation located on the campus or nearby to suit all budgets and circumstances. Once you have accepted your offer of a place on one of our programmes you can apply for your accommodation. For more information about our accommodation, visit: www.exeter.ac.uk/accommodation

MSC ECONOMICS PROGRAMMES
n MSc Economics n MSc Economics and Econometrics n MSc Economics and Experimental Economics
Our MSc Economics programmes are intended to deepen your knowledge and understanding of economics as an academic discipline. Each programme draws upon the internationally rated research undertaken within the department and the experience of our academics in developing economic policy at organisations such as such as the Bank of England, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the United Nations. A central objective of all of the programmes is to provide you with insight into the latest thinking in economics. You will attend a series of research seminars, during which you can discuss and present current research papers. You can also participate in the departmental seminars, which attract external academics and provide you with the opportunity to gain insight into current research in economics and econometrics.
MSc Economics The MSc Economics is the most general of our programmes and offers the greatest flexibility. It gives you the opportunity to acquire professional training in mainstream economics, including analytical techniques as well as subject-specific knowledge. You can learn more about this programme on our website at www.exeter.ac.uk/ business-school/postgraduate/msc_e
We also provide the opportunity for you to specialise in two discrete areas of economics and for these specialisms to be reflected in your degree title. Our MSc Economics and Econometrics and MSc Economics and Experimental Economics give you the opportunity to focus on two areas in which the Department of Economics has considerable expertise and experience.
MSc Economics and Econometrics This programme mirrors the general MSc Economics programme, but contains an additional core module in Advanced Econometrics. Whilst this module is available elsewhere, it is only compulsory in the MSc Economics and Econometrics. The programme provides a solid foundation in economics, together with advanced teaching in econometrics, and is ideal for anyone wanting a career involving econometrics or economics research. You can learn more about this programme on our website at www.exeter.ac.uk/ businessschool/postgraduate/msc_ee
MSc Economics and Experimental Economics This programme differs from the general MSc Economics in that it contains an additional core module in Experimental Economics and Finance. You may also choose to study Quantitative Methods for Finance instead of Quantitative and Research Techniques I. Furthermore, the compulsory dissertation is specifically related to the specialism, consisting an Experimental Economics Project and Dissertation. The programme draws upon our expertise in the development, running and evaluation of experiments applied to economic and financial issues. You can learn more about this programme on our website at www.exeter.ac.uk/business-school/ postgraduate/msc_ex Duration/study mode: 12 months/full-time Start – End: September – September UK/EU fee 2014/15: £8,000 International fee 2014/15: £16,000

If I could offer two pieces of advice to people coming to study Economics, the first, particularly to those from other fields, would be read up on the basic ideas and key people in the field, as this will be a great help in the early part of the course. The second would be to remember to enjoy it – there’s a lot of work and the time goes by quickly, but it is rewarding when you can tie different strands of the course together into a coherent picture of a particular issue, and that should be savoured. This programme is an ideal route into management of organisations working in global markets. It draws upon substantial expertise across the School in the areas of management, international business, marketing, strategy, economics, operations, accounting and finance to give you the latest ideas in management thinking and an overview of how global organisations work today. You can study the programme in an intensive nine-month format, or over 12 months. With both formats you study international business, marketing, operations, human resource management and accounting in the first term, and strategy and economics in the second term. If studying over nine months, you then select four options from the full range of management modules and complete in June. With the 12-month format you undertake three management options in the second term, and start preparation on a dissertation project which you continue to work on over the summer, completing in September.
The programme is equally suited to students who have a degree in an unrelated discipline as well as those who have studied management before but who wish to further their knowledge of different areas of management within an international context. In addition to top quality teaching, the School organises dedicated careers workshops and there is also an opportunity for students on the 12 month programme to spend one semester at one of our partner institutions: Mannheim Business School (Germany), Copenhagen Business School (Denmark) or SDA Bocconi School of Management (Italy). Studying at another institution allows you to choose from different specialisms which complement the themes explored in the compulsory modules of the first semester. International students should be aware that they will require a separate visa to enable them to study at a partner institution in another country. Duration/study mode: 9 or 12 months/full-time Start – End: Sept – June (9 months) Sept – Sept (12 months) UK/EU fee 2014/15: £10,500 International fee 2014/15: £18,000
The MSc in International Management is a programme that allows you to gain a deep insight into many subjects from Operations Management, to International Business or Leadership. Overall, my lecturers have taught me that I can look at problems from many different points of view. I have enjoyed the interactive nature of the tutorials, too – we have had a lot of fun debating issues and the practical problems of the industry. I have set a number of goals for myself, but first is to take my family business to the next stage. My Masters has helped me develop my personality and also broadened my vision on marketing as a whole – both of those things will be a great help when I transfer those back to our company.
