SUPPORT EXETER UNIVERSITY BOAT CLUB

SUPPORTING EXETER UNIVERSITY BOAT CLUB The University of Exeter’s rowing programme continues to go from strength to strength. We finished 6th nationally in the 2013 BUCS rankings (British Universities and Colleges Sport), our highest ranking to date, and this year nine students trialled for the GB Under 23 squad. Recent success has seen EUBC grow into one of the University’s largest and most competitive clubs; attracting 241 members this year. As Director of Rowing it is a privilege to oversee this highly successful and dynamic student programme. We have created an environment in which talented athletes are able to fulfil their potential whilst offering all students the opportunity to get involved in rowing regardless of previous experience or ability. We have been fortunate to have been well resourced by the University in recent years and in return we have delivered success in many aspects of our programme. However, we also remain ambitious and wish to continue to grow and exceed previous achievements. To do this we need to upgrade our boats. Not only will this investment help to secure the long-term future of Exeter’s rowing programme, but it will also ensure we can progress to even higher levels. Upgrading our ageing fleet with a new boat this year will enable our crews to train and compete with equipment fit for purpose, as well as enhance the quality and talent of our members. It is my aspiration, with the support of our alumni, to establish a rolling replacement fund which will allow the Club to update and upgrade our fleet year on year. With your help, I am confident that Exeter’s rowing programme will continue to develop and progress and I am extremely grateful to our alumni for their continued commitment and ongoing support. Thank you in advance for being a part of this special appeal and for your support; we remain truly grateful.

EUBC has been a huge

part of my time at Exeter. I have

the Club to thank for many of

the fantastic memories from my

time here and the support I have received has been invaluable in helping me reach my goals.

Rowing is a fantastic

sport. A successful university boat club provides an opportunity

to race around the country and even the world as part of a

team. To create a successful club it is important to have good

equipment and coaches who

will bring the best out of the

athletes, and give the students an opportunity to be proud. ELISE LAVERICK, TEAM GB ROWER AND OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDALLIST

GEORGE BUTCHER, BOAT CLUB CAPTAIN I first started rowing at the age of 13 and immediately fell in love with the sport. I very much enjoy the competitive nature of rowing and being part of a close knit team. When I came to University it seemed only logical for me to continue rowing. I found Exeter was the perfect fit, allowing me to complete my studies whilst being a member of our prestigious Boat Club. I quickly found that university rowing was very different to my experience of rowing at school; it offered both variety and a greater level of flexibility in training. I became President of the Boat Club in my second year at Exeter and was re-elected in my third year. It has been a privilege to lead the Club and to watch it grow and develop into the successful programme it is today and I have seen first-hand the impact of alumni support, both financially and through attendance at events and reunions. Being part of the Boat Club has without doubt been a highlight of my time at Exeter. Rowing has been such a massive part of my life for the past eight years and I hope to continue after I graduate and very much look forward to keeping in touch with the Club as an alumnus. I am extremely grateful for the impact that the Club has had on my time at the University and I hope that this appeal will help to ensure that future generations of Exeter students are afforded the same opportunities.
