From unlocking stem cell therapies to overcoming cancer and dementia, biochemical research has the capacity to make a huge impact on life. These courses provide a grounding in the fundamentals of chemistry, biology and biochemistry. As you progress, you’ll have the chance to explore more advanced topics such as macromolecular structure and gene cloning whilst choosing some modules to help tailor your degree. You’ll be taught by academics through lectures and seminars and use modern scientific instruments in our specialist biological science labs. In your third year you’ll have the option to put your knowledge to the test and gain vital experience in the real world on a work placement in industry or, if you choose Biochemistry with Research Placement BSc(Hons), a compulsory, supervised research placement. We’ll also support you to develop the insight and skills to help give you the edge when you graduate, boosting your employability and laying the foundations for a fulfilling career.

Course length: 3 years full-time 4 years inc. placement year

Entry requirements: A Levels/BTEC/UCAS points

BBC* inc. B in Chemistry plus C in another relevant Science subject/ DMM in Applied Science**/112 inc. B in Chemistry at A Level plus C in another relevant Science subject.

*The endorsement for practical work is an essential part of Science A Level study, and is a requirement for entry to our degree course.

**Alternatively a BTEC Health and Social Care is acceptable but must be accompanied by another Science A Level at a minimum grade C.

Biochemistry with Research Placement BSc(Hons)

Course length: 4 years full-time inc. placement year

BBB* inc. B in Chemistry and one other relevant Science subject, plus GCSEs Maths and English Language at grade 4/C. BTEC and UCAS points not applicable.

*The endorsement for practical work is an essential part of Science A Level study, and is a requirement for entry.
