Pharmacology/Pharmacology with Research Placement BSc(Hons)
Your course
The study of how drugs act is pharmacology. On this course, you’ll be looking at all aspects of pharmacology including neurodegenerative diseases and other conditions affecting ageing populations, as well as infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis and HIV-AIDS. You’ll also have the chance to study topics around public health and increase your understanding of emerging pathogens and those that are becoming resistant to antibiotics.

You’ll be guided by doctoral-level teaching staff to help build your technical and scientific knowledge, have the opportunity to develop your deductive, analytical and communication skills and gain hands-on experience in our specialist biological sciences labs using modern instrumentation.
Furthermore, in Year 3, if you want to develop your real-world experience, you can opt to complete a placement in an organisation aligned to your interests. If you choose Pharmacology with Research Placement BSc(Hons) this is a compulsory, supervised research placement. In short, you could come away from this course with the knowledge and practical skills to kick-start a fulfilling career.

Course length: 3 years full-time 4 years inc. placement year
Entry requirements: A Levels/BTEC/UCAS points
BBC* inc. B in Chemistry, or a C in Chemistry plus a B in another relevant Science subject/DMM in Applied Science**/112 inc. B in Chemistry or C in Chemistry plus a B in another relevant Science subject.
*The endorsement for practical work is an essential part of Science A Level study, and is a requirement for entry to our degree course.
**Alternatively a BTEC Health and Social Care is acceptable but must be accompanied by another Science A Level at a minimum grade C.
Course length: 4 years full-time inc. placement year
Entry requirements: A Levels/BTEC/UCAS points
BBB* inc. B in Chemistry and one other relevant Science subject, plus GCSEs Maths and English Language at grade 4/C. BTEC and UCAS points not applicable.
