Computer systems are all around us, from home entertainment packages and mobile phones through to car control systems and complex communication networks. We aim to give you the skills you need for a career in this thriving industry sector.

From desktop and workstation computers through to high performance computer systems, you’ll have the opportunity to gain a sound knowledge in a wide range of computer systems.

If you’re hoping to be a computer systems engineer, potential employers will be looking for you to understand software programming techniques, computer systems architecture and electronics. This course focuses on these three core aspects to give you the chance to build your knowledge and skills.

The course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council. When you finish your studies, you could become registered as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng), which will help when looking for your first role in the industry.

Your future

In your third year you have the opportunity to undertake a work placement. Previous graduates from courses in this subject area have gone on to work in a variety of roles such as systems engineer, electronic design engineer, senior electronic engineer and senior metrology engineer in organisations including BAE Systems, Siemens, Dyson and Bentley Motors Ltd. †

Entry requirements:

Offers will be made in the region of BBB-BBC inc. Maths A Level and one other Science or Technology subject*/DDM-DMM in Engineering** or Science or Technology plus Maths A Level/120-112***

*Science and Technology subjects accepted: Electronics, Physics, Further and Additional Mathematics, Statistics, Design and Technology: Systems and Control, Computer Science, Chemistry.

***UCAS points must be made of up A Level Maths (or equivalent) plus Science/ Technology subjects as listed above.

Accreditation

This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and fully meets the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporate Engineer and partly meets the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). This accreditation is reviewed on a regular basis.
