“My placements at the Oldham Athletic FC and Huddersfield Town Association FC working with the performance analysis department gave me skills which can only be learnt in a working environment, and it set me up for the career I wanted to pursue. I learnt how to cope with the demands of first team sport, as well as how to interact with coaches and first team staff, both of which were invaluable. I couldn’t have hoped for a better experience as an undergraduate looking to find a career in sport, specifically football.”

Sam Jones graduated from Sport Science BSc(Hons) in 2020 and is now an Academy Performance Analysis Internship at Leicester City Football Club

“The work placement was a highlight of the course for me. I completed this with a personal trainer in a local gym who also specialised in sports massages. This provided the opportunity to get a real feel of what working in this sector was like and develop my knowledge and skills which helped with my university coursework. I also gained an insight into the other career opportunities within the sector.”

“My work placement at a youth initiative sports centre allowed me to improve my key skills which are crucial for any working environment, such as time management, confidence when public speaking, planning and delivering a sports session. It helped me to understand my career aspirations, and realise that this was the area of work I’d like a long-term career in. The teaching and facilities on campus are also great.”

“The real-world practical opportunities provided on the course prepared me for work. I was able to undertake Sport Science testing with professional athletes, and gain exposure to a range of specialist testing equipment. I gained a work placement at Huddersfield Town Academy as a performance analyst, this gave me valuable experience and helped me develop my skills as a sport performance analyst.”
