This course lets you develop specialist skills to be a manager and to develop an understanding of the finance behind a business. We aim to give you a thorough grounding in finance and business, and give you lots of opportunities to learn to apply the theory in the real world. Business Data Analytics prepares you with the requisite knowledge, skills and experience to create, analyse and manage data driven initiatives as well as associated business processes to facilitate decision making and largescale business data analytics in organisations.

In this brand-new course you’ll develop the expertise to understand the changing world of business on a national and global scale. You’ll also develop practical skills to harness information to create business and social values in the digital era. Good basic quantitative skills would be desirable for this course, although these are not essential as they can be developed in the first year. In the second and final years, there are data and analytics modules where the emphasis is on applications and the use of techniques in business. Optional modules taught by international researchers and industrial practitioners will also prepare you for the wider global world of business.

The concept and importance of “data analytics” has been known for a while, but the last few years have seen a sizeable swell in interest and media attention and also demand for graduates into this career path. The programme is designed to develop both professional and technical skills – technical in terms of data visualisation, database structures, and use of software – and professional skills in terms of the commercialization of designed innovation and organisational decision making. You’ll learn to operate in the spaces between the business disciplines and IT and obtain the skills to both innovate in the new economy and commercialise those innovations. On completion you’ll possess the capacity to absorb and re-combine knowledge from different disciplines and innovate for the advantage of your organisation. This course is part of NOVUS Lite, an innovation developed between the university and the NOVUS Trust. The Trust is an industry-led organisation that focuses on developing talent in the transport, logistics and supply chain management sectors. Being part of the scheme opens up wider opportunities for work experience and networking with professionals in the sector, and is valuable to your professional development. The course provides a fantastic opportunity to join the NOVUS Lite scheme, which involves a guaranteed third year placement, a paid summer placement and a company mentor (subject to availability). This course explores a broad range of international business topics and will provide you with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the core theories, practices and techniques of managing international business. It also aims to provide you with the highly sought-after intercultural and interpersonal skills to navigate the global and complex business environment.

We’ll start by looking at how to manage and motivate people in organisations, explore the varied roles of people management specialists and line managers in areas such as people resourcing, employment relations, equality and diversity. You will also look at how training and developing employees can add value to an organisation, how investing in staff in this way builds increased commitment and enhances skills. You’ll be given the opportunity to understand the professional skills needed in the HR industry and how to recruit and inspire staff. This course is designed to help you build a greater understanding of central banking, financial markets and regulatory practice. You’ll explore the theory and policy in the financial services sector. You will also have the opportunity to explore the stock exchange and try your hand at investing, with our simulation trading tool ‘The Portfolio Game.’ During your studies you’ll focus on the role of strategic management in organisations, engage in debates about corporate social responsibility and sustainability and analyse the impact of different types of risk and uncertainty in money and finance and use appropriate theory to help decide the financial methods to avoid or reduce risk.

Student Support Huddersfield Business School provides a wide range of support services to assist our students during their studies in the School and are on hand to provide advice and guidance on a whole range of academic and non-academic areas. Located in the Student Hub, an area situated in the centre of the School to ensure that the services are easily accessible to all of our students, we offer;
Student Guidance and Support The team are here to support you with any non-academic issues which may be having an effect on your ability to study. We can offer practical advice and support on a wide range of issues which may arise during your time with us, such as homesickness, loneliness, disability support, financial problems, health issues and dealing with stress and anxiety. We offer a discreet and confidential service, appointments with the team can be arranged quickly to ensure that support is provided. We can also offer guidance on Extenuating Circumstances and Extension requests, signpost you to other University Wellbeing Services and act as a link between you and academic.

Changes to a course you have applied for If we propose to make a major change to a course that you are holding an offer for, then we will tell you as soon as possible so that you can decide whether to withdraw your application prior to enrolment. Changes to your course after you enrol as a student We will always try to deliver your course and other services as described. However, sometimes we may have to make changes as set out below: Changes to option modules Where your course allows you to choose modules from a range of options, we will review these each year and change them to reflect the expertise of our staff, current trends in research and as a result of student feedback or demand for certain modules. We will always ensure that you have a range of options to choose from and we will let you know in good time the options available for you to choose for the following year. Major changes We will only make major changes to the core curriculum of a course or to our services if it is necessary for us to do so and provided such changes are reasonable. A major change in this context is a change that materially changes the services available to you; or the outcomes, or a significant part, of your course, such as the nature of the award or a substantial change to module content, teaching days (part time provision), classes, type of delivery or assessment of the core curriculum. For example, it may be necessary to make a major change to reflect changes in the law or the requirements of the University’s regulators; to meet the latest requirements of a commissioning or accrediting body; to improve the quality of educational provision; in response to student, examiners’ or other course evaluators’ feedback; and/or to reflect academic or professional changes within subject areas. Major changes may also be

Now all you need to do is apply. necessary because of circumstances outside our reasonable control, such as a key member of staff leaving the University or being unable to teach, where they have a particular specialism that can’t be adequately covered by other members of staff; or due to damage or interruption to buildings, facilities or equipment. If this is your first (undergraduate) degree and you want to study a full-time course, then you’ll apply via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) at ucas.com
If you want to start your course in September 2022, you can apply through UCAS any time from September 2021 onwards. Please make sure UCAS receives your application by the first application deadline in January 2022. Please see hud.ac/faa for more information.
If you’re at a college or school right now, it’s probably already registered with UCAS. The best thing to do is ask your teacher or careers adviser to help with your application. Once you’ve applied we’ll keep in touch with you throughout the application process, so you’re up to speed with what’s going on.

In exceptional circumstances, we may, for reasons outside of our control, be forced to discontinue or suspend your course. Where this is the case, a formal exit strategy will be followed and we will notify you as soon as possible about what your options are, which may include transferring to a suitable replacement course for which you are qualified, being provided with individual teaching to complete the award for which you were registered, or claiming an interim award and exiting the University. If you do not wish to take up any of the options that are made available to you, then you can cancel your registration and withdraw from the course without liability to the University for future tuition fees and you will be entitled to a refund of all course fees paid to date. We will provide reasonable support to assist you with transferring to another university if you wish to do so.
