Research results: Corporate responsibility should be a natural part of daily work

The JSBE Corporate Environmental Management Research Group and the Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) collaborated on a research project which examined the utilisation of knowledge on corporate responsibility in three Finnish companies. It was discovered in the project, that the personnel of a company often do not recognise the aspects of corporate responsibility in their own work. However, the personnel consider corporate responsibility an important factor and desire an active role in issues regarding corporate responsibility. The researchers encourage companies to give their personnel a more active role in contributing to corporate responsibility. Companies should find various ways to implement corporate responsibility, which are meaningful also for the personnel, and which the employees can directly include in their daily work.

JSBE hosted the ENROAC 2013 conference

JSBE hosted the 9th international management accounting conference in Jyväskylä on 5th–7th June 2013. The three-day ENROAC (European Network for Accounting and Organisational Change) conference is held every other year, and was now organised in Finland for the first time. The conference gathered some 100 participants from 20 different countries. Most of the participants came from Europe, but some guests arrived all the way from Australia, Brazil and Canada.

The traditional scholarship banquet of the Jyväskylä Merchants Guild Foundation and the Emperor Alexander the 2nd Scholarship Fund of the Jyväskylä Merchants Guild was held in the Old Festival Hall of the University on 13th February 2013. At the banquet, the Foundation granted a total of 256 000 € to economic studies and activities in the Jyväskylä area. Out of this sum, 200 000 € was granted to the development of JSBE, funding of doctoral studies, globalisation, and teaching. Matti Vanhanen, the Head of the Finnish Family Firms Association and the former Prime Minister of Finland, was the keynote speaker of the event.

Two Honorary Doctors promoted for JSBE

JSBE elected the best Finnish economic forecaster of the year for the 16th time. The traditional prize, the crystal ball, was given to the Head Economist of Danske Bank, Pasi Kuoppamäki, at the 30th Annual Summer Seminar of Finnish Economists, held in Jyväskylä on 12th–13th June 2013.
