The Alvar Aalto Campus – Acropolis in the pine forest
The tradition of conferment ceremonies was initiated in the Middle Ages. Besides conferring doctoral degrees and honorary doctorates, the unique grand academic celebration of the University of Jyväskylä celebrates master’s degrees, too.
The architecture of the Jyväskylä campus represents Alvar Aalto’s (1898 –1976) modern synthesis of Greek and Roman antiquity, combined with the AngloAmerican campus tradition. The landscaped main campus is largely accessible only to pedestrians, with a sports field in the centre.
