ALEKS Math Placement Exam – Receive ticket at check-in. Dismissal to exam will be announced in the Singletary Center Concert Hall (March 8 and 22) or Gatton Student Center Ballroom (March 29). Students will be escorted to a computer lab and directed back to the check-in location after completing the exam. Please refer to your ticket for details and times.

3 Students can purchase their WildCard student ID card during Merit Weekend in Gatton Student Center Suite 380. The WildCard Center will be open Friday until 4:15 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. There is a $17 charge for the student ID and $5 charge for an additional ID holder (optional). Each student will need to bring a government issued ID to obtain the WildCard ID (driver’s license, passport, military ID or state identification card).

Interest Session Summaries Campus Involvement - Looking to explore student organizations and involvement opportunities on campus? The Office of Student Organizations and Activities connects students to their passions and strengths as well as provides leadership development that helps students build and enhance their marketable skills. Not only will students build lifelong friendships by getting involved, they will also build a better future! Education Abroad and Exchanges - UK Education Abroad and Exchanges offers programs for every major during the summer, fall, winter, spring and academic year. Studying abroad is just one piece of the pie; there are also opportunities to intern, teach, serve or conduct research abroad. Come learn how you can complete degree requirements overseas! #seeblueabroad First-Generation Connections - First-Generation Student Advising is here to help first-generation students at UK navigate the complexities of higher education. We do this by providing targeted advising, offering mentoring opportunities and sponsoring a living-learning community. The university defines a “first-generation student” as neither parent or guardian having earned a bachelor’s degree. Come connect with us! Fraternity and Sorority Life - Fraternities and sororities have a rich tradition at the University of Kentucky, starting in the 1890s. They continue to provide support, friendship and leadership to students and the UK community today. Being a member of a fraternity or sorority is a great way for students to be involved, form lifelong friendships, participate in community service and philanthropic endeavors and increase their leadership skills. This session provides incoming students and their families more information about the membership opportunities here at UK, as well as time to ask questions of the FSL staff. Internships - One of the most important career development experiences that students can participate in is an internship. It is a great space to test out, explore and learn about different jobs and make decisions about maximizing your time at UK as you prepare for the working world. Internship experience is one of the most important activities that employers look for when recruiting new graduates for employment opportunities. You’re invited to meet with representatives from the James W. Stuckert Career Center to learn how to find an internship, how it fits into your four-year plan and how to earn academic credit! Living on Campus - Welcome home! Students are our top priority at the University of Kentucky. That’s why UK has invested nearly $2.5 billion in the last several years revitalizing our campus, including our housing and dining facilities. Campus is designed for you. Attend this session and learn about the Living Learning Program, discover the various residence halls and room types available and hear about all the state-
of-the-art dining venues and meal plan options. Representatives from Campus Housing, UK Dining and Residence Life offices will be on-hand to share information and answer your questions. MathExcel - Learn about the MathExcel program, a special version of Calculus I (MA 113), and apply for admission after the presentation. MathExcel students get extra personal attention in intensive, collaborative workshops that are devoted to problem solving. MathExcel is open to all students who are eligible to enroll in Calculus I. Music Ensembles - Music ensembles at the School of Music are open to all UK students regardless of major, based on audition. Ensemble auditions take place a few days before the first day of class every fall, with auditions also sometimes taking place before the spring semester. Ensembles include concert bands, orchestra, choirs and athletic bands. Come join us to learn about how you can be a part our outstanding music ensembles. Peak Performance - While coming to college is exciting, positive life events such as this can also be stressful. To be the best U at UK, it is imperative to manage your stress well. This session will introduce you to unique stressors related to being a talented scholar as well as strategies and resources, including the Counseling Center, on campus to help you succeed at UK. Pre-Pharmacy Advising - All students planning to pursue pharmacy are strongly encouraged to attend this session. The pre-pharmacy advisor will present an overview of the nationally-ranked College of Pharmacy and its doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) program, admissions requirements, class scheduling and major selection for pre-pharmacy students. Tips to begin strengthening your application will be provided. Pre-Professional Advising (pre-law, pre-medical and preparatory programs for other pre-professional and allied health professions) - Advisors from across the university will share information to help you plan for professional school. This session is open to students from all majors to educate you on the admittance process for professional degree programs in medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary science, law and other professional schools. Bring your questions and let this panel give you the details on what you need to know now! Transformative Learning: Recipe for Success Interest Session - Research has shown there are some common behaviors, habits and strategies students use to succeed academically. This session will walk through the essential ingredients for academic success and provide a basic “recipe for success” related to the services and resources provided by Transformative Learning. TL is a student’s one-stop shop for on campus academic resources, and our student services include academic coaching, peer tutoring at The Study and common hour review sessions. Undergraduate Research - The great benefit to undergraduate students attending a research university is the chance to become engaged in serious academic scholarship and research with UK faculty. The best approach to learning is providing students the opportunity to participate and gain hands-on experience — to learn by doing. Join us in this session to learn more about opportunities for undergraduates and the support programs to enhance their undergraduate career at UK.

Academic success is at the center of everything we do at the University of Kentucky. Taking a student-centered approach, Student and Academic Support is just one of several units within the Division of Student and Academic Life focused on your academic and personal success. We provide support and resources to not only enhance academic achievement, but also help address your need for support in other areas of your life. Success is not simply measured by graduation, but is defined by how well you have grown in your intellectual, emotional, social and ethical development during your time at UK. We strive to have our students become career and world ready, fostering the ethos of being life-long learners and critical thinkers.
Being away from home for the first time can be challenging especially learning to manage your own finances. Sometimes money management isn’t taught in high school but we know the need for financial literacy concepts to be delivered and ingrained in our students is an essential life skill to ensure your future success. The University of Kentucky’s Student Financial Wellness Center is geared toward engaging our students in financial literacy programs and provides a place for peer mentorship through the MoneyCATS team. The center is also a resource dedicated to the entire UK community supporting the evolving financial needs of students across campus.
University of Kentucky Academic Expectations 1. Attend and prepare for ALL classes Be open to incorporating new study behaviors that will help you reach your goals. Be aware of old habits that are inhibiting your success as a student. It’s up to YOU to read and understand the assigned material; lectures and assignments proceed from the assumption that you have prepared for class.
2. Reflect on and apply what you learn College is a learning environment in which you take responsibility for thinking through and applying what you have learned. Mastery is often seen as the ability to apply what you have learned to new situations or to solve new kinds of problems.
3. Create and respect relationships It is your responsibility to build relationships with people (professors, students, advisors) who will support you in reaching your goals. At the beginning of each semester, introduce yourself to all of your professors to begin building relationships. Each semester, meet with your academic advisor at least once in addition to your priority registration appointment.
4. Expand your education beyond the classroom Take advantage of opportunities outside the classroom that will enrich your education and college experience. Investigate these possibilities with your academic advisor, professors, and student involvement.
5. Believe in your ability to succeed Believe in yourself and be persistent. Maintaining positive behaviors and attitudes will help you reach your goals.
