I chose Notre Dame because I knew I wanted a place where every single soul would know the alma mater by heart; I knew I wanted a place where friends, professors, and even people I merely know would want to see me thrive. When deciding between several top academic institutions, Notre Dame’s community was the determining factor.
PATRICIA REVUELTA GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO CLASS OF 2020 FINANCE
At Notre Dame, I have been very active on both the service and academic sides. Once per week, for example, I go to a South Bend school to tutor kids in English and math. I am also the service commissioner for my residence hall, coordinating all of its service projects. Lastly, I work part-time at Notre Dame’s Center for Career Development, where I help students prepare for interviews and polish their resumes. One of my favorite experiences at Notre Dame has been participating in the KPMG Case Competition. We competed against other Notre Dame teams in developing a strategy to improve a business, we then presented our solution to a group of KPMG professionals. We won this competition and had the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas, where we got to meet very talented students from throughout the country, take advantage of career workshops, and network with many professionals willing to help us learn.

My experience with Notre Dame was a little different, as I had never heard of this school until my high school counselor brought her close friend, a Notre Dame admissions program director, to speak at my school about a summer program at Notre Dame called Summer Scholars. After I attended that program, I witnessed Notre Dame’s close community and had no doubt that I wanted to come back for college.
ADRIANA SĂ NCHEZ HUMACO, PUERTO RICO CLASS OF 2019 ARCHITECTURE
At the beginning of my time here, I was heavily involved with the Student Advisory Group at the Snite Museum of Art. After that, my focus shifted toward the School of Architecture. I am a representative for the Student Association for Women in Architecture, where I help coordinate events and invite guest speakers every couple of months. Lastly, I work for the architecture section of the Office of Information Technologies. My favorite experience has been my internship in Paris during the summer of 2017. I worked with the architectural firm ARCAS, which has a good relationship with the faculty at Notre Dame. I worked on rendering and drawing perspectives, site documentation, and the 3D modeling of their projects. This internship was great because I not only got to work on very interesting projects, but I also had the opportunity to be immersed in Parisian culture.

Notre Dame is one of the few places where you can find not only academically accomplished students, but also athletic, kind, and social students living as part of a greater cause. I chose Notre Dame because I felt I would be walking into a university that was going to challenge me personally and academically and, more importantly, allow me to become part of the greatest college family.
JORGE NAZARIO GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO CLASS OF 2019 COMPUTER SCIENCE
On campus I have been greatly involved in the Student International Business Council (SIBC), a student-run business organization on campus. At SIBC, I got to work with some talented students on semester-long cases and meet a lot of great alumni while traveling to present our final projects. I am currently part of the club’s Board of Directors as the STEM director, overseeing the projects in one of the divisions and finding ways to increase student engagement. One of my favorite things has been exploring the world through Notre Dame. The summer after my first year, I lived in Rome and took two engineering courses. This provided me with the opportunity to live and experience multiple cultures in Europe first-hand. I had the opportunity to take some very exciting classes–some of them completely unrelated to my major–witness first-hand the European culture, and travel to numerous interesting cities.

I chose Notre Dame because of its amazing undergraduate focus and incredible sense of community. Unlike other colleges, Notre Dame provides undergraduate students tools and resources that prepare us to face challenges post-graduation.
JUAN CARLOS FERNÁNDEZ SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO CLASS OF 2019 POLITICAL SCIENCE
I have had plenty of opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities at Notre Dame. For example, I served as commissioner for Notre Dame’s Bookstore Basketball tournament, the largest outdoor 5-on-5 tournament in the world. I also had the chance to create an app to promote student engagement on campus and compete against other student start-ups in the Innovation Challenge at Notre Dame’s IDEA Center. Lastly, I have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational sports leagues on campus. I really enjoyed traveling to Portugal last summer with a grant from Notre Dame. In Portugal, I interned for two companies: Polygon, a biometrics technology firm, and Clearwater International, a financial services firm. My favorite thing about the summer in Portugal was improving my Portuguese skills. Every day, I had to work on my communication to move around the city and collaborate with my coworkers. As a non-business major, it was also very valuable to get exposure to the business world with these two internships.

I chose Notre Dame because it offers the best balance of world-class academics with an engaged faculty and a student body known for its commitment to serving others. The undergraduate experience at Notre Dame, especially in the liberal arts, revolves around deep connections with faculty and students in small classroom environments that challenge you and perfect your academic skills.
GILBERTO MARXUACH GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO CLASS OF 2020 PHILOSOPHY
Thankfully, I had the opportunity to join the Glynn Family Honors Program, the honors program of the College of Arts and Letters which connects students with the University’s most distinguished faculty. This program has helped me create bonds with professors, assisting them with research and having indepth one-on-one conversations with them. I have also joined a wide array of extracurricular activities, such as the Student International Business Council (SIBC), the Philosophy Club, my residence hall’s volleyball team, and a brand new club: Computer Science for Social Good. My favorite experiences at Notre Dame have revolved around meeting with professors for dinners. These opportunities really show how deeply the professors care about connecting with their students. For example, my firstyear University Seminar professor has helped me apply to various study abroad programs in Germany, and my German professor has invited me to dinner twice to talk about our interests and discuss possible career paths. These close connections are a reflection of the tight community that we have at Notre Dame.

I chose Notre Dame because of its incomparable combination of challenging academics and sense of community. At Notre Dame, these both have equal amounts of significance; students are encouraged to grow in all aspects of their life. I felt right at home the moment I stepped on campus, and this is a feeling that I would not trade for anything.

During my time at Notre Dame, I have been involved in a wide variety of activities. For example, I am a member of Dream Teams, a service club where we visit a low-income elementary school in South Bend every week. I was also an active participant in the Association of Latino Professionals for America, where I helped plan events with companies and got to network and develop my professional skills. One of my favorite experiences has been organizing the Hesburgh International Scholars Experience (HISE) for international admits. At HISE, I was fortunate to meet a group of very interesting high school students, tell them about my experience at Notre Dame, and guide them through the difficult process of selecting a university. It was very fulfilling to see how these students got immersed in the Notre Dame culture by the end of the week.

HOW NOTRE DAME CHANGED ME
After graduating from Notre Dame in 2013, I started working at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in San Juan as an auditor while studying for my CPA exams. After one year, I moved to Chicago and transferred to the Financial Services group at PwC, where I audited an array of banking and private equity clients. This past summer, I made the switch to finance when I started working in Capital One’s Healthcare Real Estate group as an underwriter.
While at Notre Dame, I was involved in the Notre Dame Accounting Association, serving as secretary my junior year and vice president my senior year. I also worked as a tutor in Spanish and certain business classes for student athletes. During my summers, I interned at Oriental Bank and PwC in San Juan.
One of my favorite things about Notre Dame is that it is deeply rooted in tradition that you quickly become a part of the moment you set foot on campus. Then, there are the friendships and network that follow you through life and your career. In the fall, I will be standing next to my first-year roommate as she marries her Notre Dame boyfriend! Also, it was a fellow Puerto Rican Domer that brought along the job opportunity at Capital One.
Some of my absolute best memories in life have been at Notre Dame. I was surrounded by good, smart people during my most formative years. Truthfully, once you leave South Bend, you enter the “real world” with an almost unfair advantage having been educated at Notre Dame.

INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO
WORK EXPERIENCE
In January 2018, I graduated from GE’s Financial Management Program. During my first year on the program, I worked in the Gas Power Systems business, which sells gas turbines. Afterwards, I transitioned into the Power Services business, which provides a variety of performance upgrades and maintenance services for the gas turbines sold by the GPS business. This program exposed me to two sides of the same business and familiarized me with a variety of areas in finance–e.g., financial planning and analysis, global supply chain finance, etc.–and with the energy generation ecosystem as a whole.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND INTERNSHIPS While at Notre Dame, I volunteered as a writer for the University’s student-run newspaper The Observer, worked as a Spanish tutor at the Center for the Study of Languages and Culture, was a tutor at the Robinson Community Learning Center in South Bend, and participated actively in the Student International Business Council (SIBC). During my sophomore summer, rather than work at an internship, I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship from the Glynn Family Honors Program to spend my summer studying German in Freiburg. The following summer I was fortunate to find an internship with UBS’s Miami office.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT NOTRE DAME
Without a doubt, my favorite part of the Notre Dame experience was the overwhelming sense of family that permeates student life. In large part, the foundation for this tight community is the unique residential life at Notre Dame. In the residence hall, you get to form close friendships and witness Notre Dame’s warm and welcoming culture dayto-day; this is where you really develop the Notre Dame identity that follows you even after graduation.
HOW NOTRE DAME CHANGED ME
Notre Dame magnified aspects of my personality in ways I would not have expected. Specifically, it instilled in me the value of helping those around me. Ever since attending Notre Dame, I feel like I am not living a fulfilling life if I am not actively seeking to better the communities that I am a part of. Notre Dame really makes you aware of the bigger picture and allows you to grow not only as a student or professional, but also as a person.

FINANCE AND PEACE STUDIES GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO
WORK EXPERIENCE
Upon graduating from Notre Dame in 2015, I joined BMO Capital Markets’ Industrials group as an investment banking analyst in its Chicago office. In my role, I work with a wide variety of industrial clients providing them with mergers and acquisitions, debt, and equity capital advisory services.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND INTERNSHIPS During my time at Notre Dame, I was heavily involved with the admissions office as an international admissions assistant, served in the student government as an Internal Affairs Committee member, and participated in several projects with the Student International Business Council (SIBC). I also did community service as a tutor for elementary students at the local Robison Community Learning Center. During my summers, I explored different potential career paths in business, both in Puerto Rico and on the mainland. I interned at different firms including: Carrion, Laffitte & Casellas; Oriental Bank; and UBS. These opportunities allowed me to further develop both professionally and personally, and ultimately served as a roadmap for what I wanted to do post-graduation.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT NOTRE DAME
While there are many things that make Notre Dame unique, by far the most distinguishable is the people–students, faculty, and alumni. As a student, I was able to meet and build relationships with a wide variety of them and learn about their diverse backgrounds, experiences, and passions. Most importantly, while they were all unique in their own way, what resonated with me the most was the fact that they all shared a common goal of developing into better, well-rounded individuals and making a positive impact in the world.
HOW NOTRE DAME CHANGED ME
Notre Dame granted me the opportunity to continue to discover my passions, solidify the values instilled by my parents, and determine my purpose. It provided me with experiences and tools that helped shape me–and that continue to shape me three years after graduating. In general, Notre Dame enabled me to grow personally and professionally and to realize my full potential.
