“At Redlands, I was able to develop my interests with support from professors who took the time to listen to my concerns and help me find the resources I needed to succeed. It's because of these opportunities that I am able to proudly pursue my Doctor of Pharmacy degree today.”

Josh Liao ’19 | Biology major, Hunsaker Scholar Doctor of Pharmacy at Western University (U of R Pathways Program)

Learn with every interaction.

“Growing up, I never felt comfortable asking for help. I always thought I had to do things on my own. I’ve definitely changed from the person I was in high school—since I’ve arrived at Redlands, I’ve felt more confident in meeting new people and I’m more curious about learning."

The skills you develop here are the ones that you will use for the rest of your life. Leadership. Analytical thinking. Problem solving. Communication. Teamwork. And that’s just part of it. Deep relationships with faculty and peers will help build your confidence, enhance your creativity, and feed your curiosity.

MAKING CONNECTIONS

A first-generation college student from Chicago, Jackie Gonzales came to Redlands thinking she was going to be a chemistry major, but switched to studio art after taking an intro class for fun. The small class sizes enabled Gonzales to get to know all of her professors on a personal level. She particularly connected with her studio art professor, who answered questions about her major and helped her envision a career in graphic design.

“Professor Svenson consistently pushes you to think critically, apply what you’ve learned throughout the semester, and formulate your own opinions. These lessons are not something that you ever stop utilizing—in or out of the classroom.”

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS INSPIRATION

MENTORING EACH

OTHER

The Johnston Center for Integrative Studies is an intentional living-learning community and program that brings together intellectually curious and civically minded students. In Johnston, students practice collaboration, debate ideas, and celebrate each individual.

“At Redlands, students are encouraged to foster their own communities. Not only have I truly come to understand the value in that, but I’ve also learned how to view my shortcomings as first attempts in learning.”

Sabrina James ’21 | Johnston Center for Integrative Studies student, with an emphasis on Understanding Social Inequity to Pursue Equity

At Redlands, we’re deeply invested in lifting our community up. It’s why Washington Monthly ranks Redlands as a top 5% university nationwide based on contributions to the public good. Our goal is to equip you with everything you need to build a great future—for yourself and those around you.

Build something meaningful.

WHEN YOU GIVE, YOU GAIN.

You’ll find endless ways to contribute to the greater good at Redlands, from community service learning to sustainable gardening to social justice initiatives. One popular opportunity is R.E.A.C.H (Read, Empower, Attain, Create, Hope), a community service learning project that brings students and faculty to work with, and learn from, students in San Bernardino Central Detention and Assessment Center and Regional Youth Education Facility (RYEF)-Gateway, a juvenile court placement facility.

“ My professors all take time to ask about my interests, which has helped me vocalize what I really want to do. I don't think that would've happened at a bigger school."

Kourtney Heald ’22 | Biochemistry and molecular biology major

A competitive motocross racer since the age of 14, Kourtney Heald’s interest in biochemistry stems specifically from wanting to help riders manage pain. She’s witnessed other riders get injured and become dependent on painkillers as a result. Inspired by a desire to help injured athletes break the addiction cycle, Heald

participated in the Summer Science Research program, a highly competitive 10-week program that offers selected students an opportunity to work on a research project alongside a professor. She and a peer developed simulations, analyzed data, and ran chemical analyses in the lab.
