“At Redlands, I was able to develop my interests with support from professors who took the time to listen to my concerns and help me find the resources I needed to succeed. It's because of these opportunities that I am able to proudly pursue my Doctor of Pharmacy degree today.”
Josh Liao ’19 | Biology major, Hunsaker Scholar Doctor of Pharmacy at Western University (U of R Pathways Program)
“Growing up, I never felt comfortable asking for help. I always thought I had to do things on my own. I’ve definitely changed from the person I was in high school—since I’ve arrived at Redlands, I’ve felt more confident in meeting new people and I’m more curious about learning."
Jackie Gonzales ’22 | Studio art major
The skills you develop here are the ones that you will use for the rest of your life. Leadership. Analytical thinking. Problem solving. Communication. Teamwork. And that’s just part of it. Deep relationships with faculty and peers will help build your confidence, enhance your creativity, and feed your curiosity.
A first-generation college student from Chicago, Jackie Gonzales came to Redlands thinking she was going to be a chemistry major, but switched to studio art after taking an intro class for fun. The small class sizes enabled Gonzales to get to know all of her professors on a personal level. She particularly connected with her studio art professor, who answered questions about her major and helped her envision a career in graphic design.

“ My professors all take time to ask about my interests, which has helped me vocalize what I really want to do. I don't think that would've happened at a bigger school."
Kourtney Heald ’22 | Biochemistry and molecular biology major
A competitive motocross racer since the age of 14, Kourtney Heald’s interest in biochemistry stems specifically from wanting to help riders manage pain. She’s witnessed other riders get injured and become dependent on painkillers as a result. Inspired by a desire to help injured athletes break the addiction cycle, Heald
participated in the Summer Science Research program, a highly competitive 10-week program that offers selected students an opportunity to work on a research project alongside a professor. She and a peer developed simulations, analyzed data, and ran chemical analyses in the lab.
