ACADEMICS

“My professors all take time to ask about my interests, which has helped me vocalize what I really want to do. I don’t think that would’ve happened at a bigger school.” Kourtney Heald ’22 Biochemistry and molecular biology major

Maybe it’s an interest in making your own music, changing the structure of political discourse, or designing an eco-friendly business model. At Redlands, you can explore more than 40 programs of study—all built on a strong liberal arts foundation— and chart a course that feels uniquely you. Whether that’s taking on a double major or devising a curriculum tailored to your professional goals, this intellectual journey is yours to own. Your studies will plant the seeds for classroom discussions, internship experiences, community engagement, and more. Every question you ask and every path you pursue will lead you to more opportunities. You’ll leave Redlands prepared to lead in an ever-changing world, and ready to build a better future.

← Kourtney Heald ’22, can be found competing in off-road motocross tournaments and in the lab working on a research project on pain and touch sensitivity in murine models with Biology Professor Bryce Ryan. Driven by her passion to help others, Heald is on a path to attend medical school. She is a part of our selective Proudian Interdisciplinary Honors Society, and is the Pre-health Club anesthetics chair. Her Redlands education has allowed her to think critically and have a well-rounded academic experience.

SELF-DISCOVERY ← Computer science professor, Trish Cornez, connected students Sean Unger ’18 and David Galindo ’18 with the Redlands Area Historical Society (RAHS). The goal—have the students build an app for the society. The result, Sean and David received real world experience building the RAHS Explorer app, and because of their training in the classroom, they were asked to do additional internship work which eventually led to a scholarship. Professor Cornez was able to facilitate an opportunity for her students to create their own opportunity beyond what was originally asked of them. Read more at Redlands.edu/rahs.

“ The process was time-consuming and challenging, but that was my favorite part—being able to work with my best friend and learn together by building something from scratch.” Sean Unger ’18 on building an app for the Redlands Area Historical Society with David Galindo ’18

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

LET YOUR CURIOSITY TAKE HOLD One of the many benefits of attending a small university is how you’re placed directly in the center of the experience. This means you’ll cultivate professional skills directly from valuable internships in your chosen field or industry. You’ll collaborate with faculty to research topics that fascinate you. You’ll extend your studies well beyond the walls of the classroom, including across the country or overseas.

“Being able to work with actual clients in the clinic and getting real-life experience was so valuable for me. It showed me what speech-language pathologists can do and how I can help others one on one.” Nick Lough ’17, ’20 Communication sciences and disorders major

The communication sciences and disorders program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to observe speech pathology sessions taking place in our labs with clients.

INVITE A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE ← Imagine what your studies might look like if they were set in a completely different culture, or even taught in a different language. Not only do international and domestic study-away programs provide a new setting for your learning, but these experiences also allow you to explore diverse cultures and become a more broad-minded, active, and knowledgeable citizen of the global community. Undergraduate students in Panama use field research and drones to map watershed boundaries, stream courses, and classify habitats according to vegetative structure and potential for carbon sequestration.
