In the University of Redlands School of Music, our goal is to educate the whole musician, not just to train a performer.
All great performances go far beyond technical mastery to include a sense of history, society, culture, and art. Through a conservatory approach in a liberal arts setting, our students learn to perform, interpret, and teach music in a rich learning environment that provides both a broad education and rigorous training. Our studio teachers are among the finest musicians and teachers in Southern California. The classes are small and our teachers provide an individualized education.

“ It’s awesome to just walk down the hall and be able to find someone who will help you with a piece of music. No one judges you and everyone’s very supportive.” DAVID REYES Engineering 3-2 program: B.M. Music Performance at Redlands ’18 B.S. Mechanical Engineering at Columbia ’19
PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES Performance opportunities abound with more than 200 annual recitals and concerts presented by faculty, students, ensembles, and guest artists. • Feast of Lights, a University of Redlands holiday tradition since 1948, features the choral program with orchestra. • The Opera Workshop performs a major production with orchestra each spring. • The School of Music has a close relationship with the Redlands Symphony Orchestra (RSO). In addition to hearing their teachers perform as the principal players in the RSO, students have opportunities to play in the RSO as an assistant, substitute, or section player. • Through the Concerto Competition, an exceptional performer may be selected to perform as a soloist with the Redlands Symphony Orchestra during the concert season. Additional prizewinners will be invited to perform with the University Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. • Undergraduate and graduate music students can compete to perform in the President’s Honor Recital.
