The Reverend Dr. Jorge William de Castro Abdala, D.Min. ’16
s pastor of two congregations in San Mateo, CA (Latinos Unidos en Cristo and Igreja Presbiteriana Brasileira), Rev. Dr. Jorge Abdala is an experienced minister of the Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA). His inspired leadership in the Reformed Hispanic, Latino, and Brazilian communities is known locally and throughout the world. Abdala earned his Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 2016. Prior to that, he earned multiple degrees and certificates, including Master of Science in religion at the Pontificia Universidade Catolica-PUC (Pontificial Catholic University) in 2004; a bachelor’s degree in philosophy at the Universidade Católica Paulopolitana-FAI (Paulopolitana Catholic University-FAI, São Paulo City, Brazil) in 2003; Bachelor of Theology degree at Escola Superior de Teologia Evangélica ESTE (Superior School of Theology, São Paulo City, Brazil) in 2000; and a music diploma at Universidade Livre de Música and Free Music School (Santo André City, Brazil) in 1997. Currently, Abdala serves as moderator for the National Portuguese Language Presbyterian Council PCUSA. In 2020, he became a board member of the Racial Equity Advocacy Committee at the 224th PCUSA General Assembly. Since 2017, Abdala also has served as a board member for the National Hispanic/Latinx National Presbyterian Caucus PCUSA and moderator for the National Hispanic Latino Presbyterian Men PCUSA. In 2016, he took a role as visiting professor at the School of Theology Escuela Latinoamericana de Estudios Teologicos in El Cerrito, California. He coaches the Brazilian and Hispanic Ministries (N.C.D./G.A./PCUSA). In January 2013, Abdala joined the board for Global Fellowship Network in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where he continues to serve as a director. From 2013 to 2015, Abdala was vice-moderator for the Caucus Hispano Latino Sinodo del Pacifico, in California. With a deeply lasting faith in Jesus Christ, Abdala is a gifted pastor, teacher, composer, musician, and leader. He has a pastor’s heart and cares deeply for his congregants and neighbors, many of whom are new and struggling under-documented immigrants living throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
