WHAT’S IT LIKE TO STUDY COMPUTING AND SOFTWARE ENGINEERING WITH FOUNDATION YEAR AT SALFORD? / Competitions Salford is at the heart of the rapidly growing tech community in Greater Manchester, and a sponsor of Hack Manchester where competitors are able to exercise their programming skills in a fun environment. In October 2019, one of Salford’s student teams won the Co-op challenge; a second won the Next Generation category; and another team secured third place in the prestigious Clockwork challenge. / Part of the community In April 2019, Salford hosted over 200 female undergraduates, postgraduates, and researchers of Computing and related subjects for the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium – named after the woman considered the world’s first programmer for her ideas surrounding a machine’s ability to interpret – which enables women to network, communicate and advise. / Societies At the University of Salford, we have a range of student-run societies which cover all aspects of student life, from academia to sports, politics to the environment, performance to faith. Several are linked to our computing courses – such as Steminists, Computing and Esports – providing likeminded students with a place to socialise, relax and enhance their skills.
