The Maker Space is a cutting-edge facility, that provides access to digital fabrication and additive manufacturing tools. Proudly powered by the Morson Group STEM Foundation, it is home to industrial-grade machinery akin to those on factory floors, facilitating testing and prototyping concepts. Together we champion STEAM skills to help cultivate practical digital skills, fostering design, innovation and production skills both in curriculum and for research projects.

Maker Space Director Serves as Judge at the Robotics and Automation Awards!

These awards are open to individuals working across the robotics and automation industry and throughout all parts of the related value chain.

Judging alongside Associate Professor Nicola Bailey, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering at King's College London, the panel conducted interviews and selected winners for the Smart Factory and Industrial Innovation categories. At the award ceremony, Dr. Maria Stukoff presented the Innovation in Agriculture Award to Autopickr!

The Maker Space Student Instructor Programme is now Live! Meet some of our instructors in this video interview here >>

Entering its second year with 9 new student instructors from various course disciplines joining the team. These student instructors are skilled Maker Space users who serve as an extension of our maker staff, creating a friendly, peer-to-peer learning environment to help fellow students navigate Maker Space technologies.

Starting in November, they’ll also be supporting extended Maker Space opening hours on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings until 7:30pm. This programme not only enhances students technical knowledge but also develops their communication and

/ Science Frenzy at the Manchester Science Festival held from 18th to 27th October, 2024

This large scale event which attracts over 20,000 attendees each year to engage with groundbreaking research. Among the highlights are 3D-printed large scale bacteriophage interactive models of Professor Chloe James's reseach work on bacteriophages, all created at the Maker Space.

Dedicated to making complex science accessible, the Maker Space team has collaborated with Chloe and her team for few years now, creating innovative ways to convey intricate scientific concepts to the public with a tangible way to understand how phages operate and their potential medical applications.

Go Beyond ‘Women in STEM’ Student Conference Goes Ahead

Following the success of our inaugural Women in STEM Celebration in March 2024, the Go Beyond Women in STEM Conference returns on Wednesday, 5th March 2025 in the Chapman Building. This half-day event will celebrate achievements and inspire future STEM leaders, bringing together female students from Salford, Manchester University, and Manchester Metropolitan University. The conference will also feature keynote speakers, panel discussions with industry partners, and a marketplace for University services and networking opportunities. Stay tuned for more details!

Unimaker Salford 2025 UK's Academic Makersapce Conference

The University of Salford’s Maker Space will host Unimaker Salford 2025 on June 26th and 27th. This two-day event will feature inspiring speakers, panel sessions, roundtable discussions, and a dynamic marketplace showcasing maker projects.

Titled “Innovative Learning Spaces: Unlocking the Impact of Maker Spaces,” the conference will explore how academic makerspaces enhance curricula, boost student engagement, and foster entrepreneurial skills. Originally launched by the University of Sheffield, Unimaker highlights innovation and skills in higher education. Salford’s Maker Space will also host a special event for student makers during the conference and we are thrilled our inspirational speaker Nav Sawnhey, Founder of The Washing Machine Project has been confirmed.
