ACCESS TO INDUSTRY
Fieldwork is essential to every geography and environmental management course at Salford. The best news is that eld trips are funded by us (but you may need to consider additional costs such as food and spending money). We’ve aligned our trips with specialist modules, so you can develop applied skills and gain practical experience. You’ll participate in residential eld courses across the UK, in places on our doorstep such as the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, as well as further a eld at international locations, such as Scandinavia and Barcelona.
Collaboration with industry partners is an important part of our geography and environmental management courses. During your studies you’ll have the opportunity to learn about sustainable industry projects such as our on-campus IGNITION living lab, which aims to tackle the climate change using green infrastructure, as well as work with industry partners on a consultancy project module.
You’ll also have the opportunity to get involved with university-wide sustainable initiatives, like our Hedgehog friendly campus group, our #gogreensalford month promoting a variety of environmental goals, and lots of on-campus environmental events.
Our teaching evolves with industry developments. Our academic sta are experienced professionals, practitioners and researchers, active in their chosen eld. Current research areas include sustainability, spatial ecology, wildlife and sheries management, climate change mitigation, disease modelling and more.

FOUNDATION YEAR PATHWAY INDUSTRY PLACEMENTS
The foundation year entry pathway is an ideal study route if you don’t meet the criteria for direct entry to the honours degree course, if you are returning to education, or if you wish to change direction. Our foundation year will introduce key concepts, theories and principles, and help you to build essential higher education skills. On successful completion, you’ll be ready to join your chosen full honours degree course.
As one of the rst UK universities to introduce industry placements, we continue to champion this career-enhancing experience. On our geography and environmental management courses, you can include an industry placement between years two and three. By including a placement in your studies, you can apply the knowledge you’ve developed, build extra property and construction skills and stand out in the competitive graduate job market.
