Spain is a geographically and culturally diverse country and Madrid is in the center of it. The University of San Diego Madrid Center is located in the heart of Madrid, just steps from Retiro Park and the world-famous Prado Museum. The Madrid Center offers a semester program that mixes old Spain with modern life. Students are immersed into Spanish culture by living in local homestays and participating in an adventurous travel seminar. They also have opportunites to enhance their cultural experience through community engagement.

LOCAL HOMESTAYS

The Madrid Center Semester Program offers courses across several disciplines including Spanish, Art History, Business, Communication Studies, History, Political Science, Theology and Religious Studies, Science, and local internships. Courses are generally held Monday through Thursday. The first course begins at 9 a.m. and the last course ends at 6:30 p.m. Professors schedule out-of-class activities that enhance the academic content of their course by providing students with the opportunity to explore course concepts in real time within a global setting. All courses are offered in English with the exception of the Spanish language courses and students from other universities in the USA are welcome.

All students in the USD Madrid Center Semester Program can participate in homestays. The homestay is a unique opportunity that allows students to fully integrate themselves into Spanish culture. Living with a Spanish family allows for improvement of Spanish and to get to know MadrileĂąos. USD Madrid Center homestays range from single seĂąoras to larger families, such as couples with young or grown-up children and even grandparents, who reside in the central neighborhoods of Madrid. We collaborate only with families that will make the student part of their family and offer personalized attention.

IMPORTANT DATES

The travel seminar is a very attractive component of the Madrid Center Semester Program and is unique from other semester programs available in Madrid. The travel seminar offers students an academic and culturally intense opportunity to travel throughout Spain, coupling cultural site visits with guest lecturers as well as company visits. Students can choose to receive academic credit during the travel seminar from courses in Business, Political Science or History while visiting Toledo, Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba, Valencia and Barcelona.

Internships: Students can receive academic credit for hands-on experience with participating Spanish companies offering opportunities in business areas such as Marketing, Finance and Communications.

The fall semester runs from late August through mid-December. The spring semester runs from late January through late May.

Volunteer Services: By partnering with local organizations, students are offered an opportunity to participate in one-off projects as well as ongoing projects depending on their interests and availability. Language Exchange: Students can practice their Spanish while meeting native Madrileños by participating in intercambios at the USD Madrid Center.
