USD First Lecture
This “first lecture” by Esteban del Río, PhD, associate provost and award-winning professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, promises a provocative, interactive and invigorating experience for the mind and the heart. This OLÉ! experience is meant to open up possibilities from the outset, lay out the stakes and frame what lies ahead. It will also challenge students to consider the ways they have been socialized to think about themselves, notions of success and the very stories that brought them to the doorstep of a college education. Participants will consider how cultural inquiry, something considered academic and theoretically complex, holds the potential to radically alter both perception and reality. It helps us get to the whole point of a liberal education: personal and social transformation. 2 – 5 p.m.
Iced Coffee and Acai Bowls with Changemakers Student Life Pavilion, Third Floor Courtyard Presented by Changemaker Hub, Mulvaney Center CASA, and the Office of Sustainability Swing by and enjoy some delicious fair-trade, cool-brewed coffee (provided by USD partner Cafe Virtuoso), Acai bowls (provided by Soulr Bowls), and engage with students active in social change from the Changemaker Hub, Office of Sustainability and Mulvaney Center CASA.
