THE GOODS In this explorative four-week program you have the opportunity to both investigate a new medium as well as dig deeply into an area you’re already passionate about. By selecting up to four courses that allow you to hone your skills and learn new techniques, you will build your visual and verbal vocabulary while creating a portfolio that showcases your abilities.
Our exceptional faculty will work with you as you explore the conceptual, creative and technical boundaries of your chosen subjects. You will select one or two majors as well as two elective courses that suit your unique areas of interest. Working in our world-class facilities amongst your talented peers, stretch your imagination and artistic limits as you create artwork that tells your own personal story. THE EXTRAS
THE SHOW
On Saturdays, explore the City of Philadelphia, taking in the City’s cultural and artistic sites. Past trips have included the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Museum, the Rodin Museum, the Fabric Workshop and Museum, and the Institute of Contemporary Art. Your classes will also have guest lecturers, including the University’s Admissions staff who will talk about preparing for college admissions. You will have a oneon-one review with an admissions counselor to help you showcase your talents and build your best portfolio. Rising seniors will have an opportunity to use that meeting as an official portfolio review for your college application for the fall of 2015.
The final exhibition, screenings and performances are an integral part of the Summer Institute experience and give you a real-life opportunity to curate a show, hang an exhibition, write an artist statement and share your work publicly with an audience. THE TAKE AWAY
In this program your problemsolving skills, technical expertise and creative processes will flourish. You will emerge from the program with new skills, a new vocabulary for your areas of interest and an increased confidence as an artist; but most importantly, you will be on the road to becoming the artist you want to be. In addition to developing a strong portfolio for college admissions, you will also be included in the annual “Look Book” (see bit. ly/LookBook13) with images of your work and artist statement printed alongside those of other remarkable artists and writers. 5
