The Scene Spend your summer in the coolest city in America. Anchored on the vibrant Avenue of the Arts, our campus is located in the cultural district of Center City—the heart of downtown Philadelphia. During your summer at UArts, you'll immerse yourself in creating and grow artistically. But creativity doesn’t stop when classes end. Between impromptu jam sessions and open studios, you'll find yourself creating something new with a classmate from the other side of the world or exploring one of the world-class museums, theaters, or concert halls —all within a short walk from campus—with teachers and friends. Your experience at UArts is more than what happens in the classroom. Philadelphia’s centuries-old architecture, historic music scene, and vibrant visual and performing arts make this city a culturally dynamic and influential place. The best of Philly’s past, present and future sits within blocks of the University of the Arts’s doors, accessible by foot, bus or train. And when you need a break from all that practice and time in the studio, relax in the UArts residence halls, where your neighbors include fellow artists, musicians, writers, and performers from around the world.
Residence Halls
Meal Plans
Our apartment style residence halls come with private baths in each unit. Juniper Hall apartments feature central air, shared bedrooms for 2-4 students, common area, and full kitchens in each unit. Spruce Hall apartments feature large studio apartments shared by 2-3 students, window AC units, and kitchenettes. Washing machines + dryers are available in all residence halls for a fee. No guests are permitted in the residence halls.
In order to foster a spirit of community, we require all Summer Institute residential students to participate in a meal plan, and we encourage commuters to participate as well.
Supervision
Residential Meal Plans include breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week. The Dining Services team is committed to providing food for all types of dietary needs and lifestyles including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.
All residence halls are supervised by professional Pre-College staff, including Community Advisors (CAs) and Resident Directors. All Residence Life staff members report to the Director of Student Life, who is actively engaged in the welfare of each Pre-College Summer Institute student. The residence halls are staffed with a security officer 24 hours per day, and students use their UArts photo ID to gain access to their residence hall.
