THE GOODS

THE SHOW

Chances are you have more than one interest when it comes to art. That’s why in your four weeks here you’ll dive deep into the medium you’re passionate about, but also learn to express yourself through new processes. You’ll choose up to four courses, where you will hone your skills and learn new techniques while building your visual and verbal vocabulary.

The final exhibition, screenings and performances are an opportunity for you to make your statement and give you the opportunity to curate a show, hang an exhibition, write an artist statement and share your work with an audience.

Our faculty of professional, practicing artists will mentor you as you explore the conceptual, creative and technical possibilities of your chosen subjects. Select one or two majors and two elective courses to create a customized learning experience that gets you where you want to go. Surrounded by our world-class facilities, peers from around the world, and personally invested faculty, you will stretch your imagination and artistic limits until you generate the art only you can create.

THE TAKE AWAY Your finished works, new friends and the three college credits you’ll have earned are just the beginning. The Summer Institute is designed to give you the problem-solving skills, technical expertise and creative processes you need to be the artist you want to be. You will emerge from the program with new skills, a new vocabulary and an increased confidence as an artist. In addition to developing a strong portfolio, you will also be included in the annual “Look Book” with images of your work and artist statement printed alongside those of other remarkable students in the program.

THE EXTRAS When in Philadelphia, do as the Philadelphians do. On Saturdays you will do just that as you take in the city’s cultural and artistic sites such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation Museum, the Fabric Workshop and Museum, and the Institute of Contemporary Art. Your classes will also have guest lecturers, including the University’s Admissions staff who will talk about preparing for college admissions. You’ll get a one-on-one review with an Admissions counselor. Rising seniors can use this towards a fall 2016 college application.

Develop critical vocabulary, identify connections in your work and the work of your peers, and generate new pieces that will broaden your portfolio. Use new skills to refine and publish work in a collaborative zine and a group journal.
