MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SPORTS MEDICINE The accredited Master of Science degree in Sports Medicine at University of Western States (UWS) is designed for health care providers seeking specialization in the management of physical fitness, prevention and treatment of injuries related to sports and exercise. This education and degree opens up opportunities in the sports industry and enhances a provider’s marketability to athletic populations. Sports medicine refers to all individuals responsible for keeping an athlete healthy. This team often includes an athletic trainer, chiropractic physician, physical therapist and/or medical doctor. Depending on the size of the athletic organization, the sports medicine team can range from one person to 20. In many settings, other specialties like dentists, ophthalmologists, sport psychologists, nutrition specialists, massage therapists and acupuncturists are also included on the sports medicine team. The Masters of Science in Sports Medicine is a natural fit for chiropractic physicians and other health care professionals who desire a specialty practice working with athletes. A sports medicine degree can open up opportunities to work with various sports teams (high school, collegiate and professional) and in sports-related facilities. In addition, this degree provides appropriate credentials for teaching in higher education settings.
EXPERT INSTRUCTORS Our expert instructors have extensive backgrounds in sports medicine and first-hand experience treating athletes of all levels. The science-based curriculum gives graduates the skills to work with athletes in a clinic setting or as a team physician. Graduates will also be eligible to sit for several credentialing exams.
FIELD SPECIALIZATION Practicing clinicians need only complete 38 of the program’s 60 quarter credits because prior education and clinic experience may be used as transfer credits. This allows most health care professionals to finish the degree in just a year and a half. This is a quick way to specialize in your field and start practicing more of the work you’re most passionate about.
HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE
SAVE TIME AND MONEY
Hands-on training is emphasized in this program, along with current evidence and trends in sports medicine and research. An essential part of the program includes field experience working with local sports teams, multi-level athletes and at rehab clinics during labs and practicum.
Current chiropractic students enrolled in the sports medicine program save time and money because the curriculum overlaps with courses in our doctor of chiropractic program. This means students can finish the Master of Science degree coursework in less time because the credits are dually attributed.

ONLINE LEARNING For some, learning in an online environment is a new experience. At UWS, we strive to make that experience community-driven and stress-free. Interactive discussion forums allow students with a diverse array of educational and professional backgrounds to learn from each other, as well as from assigned readings and lectures. Our weekly modular schedule means that students can log on at the times most convenient for them, rather than being required to bend their work and family schedules to meet at a predetermined hour.
