Money Matters We believe that the overall Wolverhampton experience offers excellent value for money and is a sensible investment in your future. The low cost of living in Wolverhampton, compared to other cities in the UK, means your money goes further – according to numbeo.com, consumer prices in the city are 20% lower, eating out is 30% less expensive, and rents are up to 300% lower! It’s estimated that a single student living in Wolverhampton will need approximately £1,015 a month to meet basic living expenses such as accommodation costs, food, books and equipment, and other necessities. This is in line with the Home Office recommended figures for living outside London. This figure is given as a guide only. WHERE TO BUY FOOD Wolverhampton has a variety of major supermarkets including ASDA, Sainsbury’s and Tesco, cheaper supermarkets including Lidl and Aldi, and premium supermarkets such as Waitrose and Marks & Spencer. British shops and larger supermarkets stock a wide range of products including foods imported from other countries and foods meeting religious requirements, such as Halal. There are also many local ethnic stores where you will be able to find the foods you are used to eating at home.

FOOD COSTS: £30 - £35 (average cost of weekly shop purchasing supermarket’s own brand). ACCOMMODATION COSTS: £4,900 - £8,300 per year depending on the type of accommodation. OTHER COSTS: To cover items such as books, clothing, entertainment, laundrette and dry-cleaning, personal hygiene items and household articles, you will need approximately £340 for the year.

The following example helps to illustrate the breakdown of costs. Let’s say your course fee is £12,000 and you’ve paid £3,000 in advance. For living costs you’ll need to show £9,135 (£1,015 x 9 months) but you’ve also paid £500 towards your University accommodation already. So, for this example, the amount you’ll need to show in your bank account is £17,635 – because £9,000 + £9,135 - £500 = £17,635.

Food prices are very different depending on where you shop and what products you buy. Supermarkets often have ‘own label’ brands which are cheaper than more recognised brands. You could also explore local markets or bulk buying.

The best thing about studying at the University of Wolverhampton is at the end, you’ll have a degree certificate and people will think you’re mega-smart and want to give you amazing jobs – but if they don’t, you’ve always got the option of staying on to do a postgrad.

The best thing about the University of Wolverhampton is that your background does not matter, you’ll feel right at home and you will have the desire to discover new horizons to improve yourself; it definitely is the University of Opportunity. Don’t worry about asking for advice – there is lovely and qualified staff willing to sail with you during the storm.

Being a doctoral student at the University of Wolverhampton is one of the most memorable experiences of my life. The exciting research project on first year undergraduate experience matched my research interest perfectly as my Master degree study was about educational leadership and innovation.

My biggest success is being elected as the Welfare VP at the University of Wolverhampton Students’ Union. If you’re a student starting at the University, my advice is to get involved with the ongoing activities on campus and don’t leave your university work until the last minute – even if you have to, due to other priorities, then don’t give up because you finish what you started!

LLB Honours (Undergraduate Degree) and Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice Course

Look at the University resources and people that best enable you to develop yourself. I’ve started my professional career as I wanted and won a full scholarship to study fulltime abroad.

MSc International Banking and Finance

China

My supervisors were extraordinarily supportive and caring, which not only helped me build up my research skills but also enhanced my personal development. The guidance and training I received prepared me well for job hunting after graduation. Currently I am an Evaluation Director in a nonprofit organization in Canada, contributing to local community building with the knowledge and research skills developed through my PhD study.

How to apply

FACULTY OF ARTS

DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT APPLYING? HERE’S OUR TEN STEP GUIDE TO THE APPLICATION PROCESS.

01 Apply There are three easy ways to apply:

02

Get your offer Providing that you have submitted all the correct information, you will receive one of the following decisions by email:

03

Meet your conditions

04

Accept your offer

05

Book your accommodation

33

06 Confirmation

• Direct to the University – complete and submit an online application form, including a personal statement regarding your suitability for your chosen course, along with scans of your original academic transcripts and certificates. • Through a country representative – our in-country representatives can help you make your application and apply for a visa, and give advice on studying abroad.

of acceptance for studies (CAS)

• Through UCAS – if you’re applying for an undergraduate degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND), you can apply through the UK’s Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) at: ucas.com

07

• Unconditional offer – You meet the entry criteria. Your place will be reserved until you accept or decline your offer. • Conditional offer – You still need to complete your current qualifications, or submit outstanding documents. Your place will be reserved until you meet the rest of the entry criteria.

Arrange your finances

• Alternative course – You do not meet the entry criteria for the course you applied for, but you are suitable for another course. • Reject – You do not meet the entry criteria. We will always offer an alternative course where possible.

08

• If you are holding an unconditional offer, you have already met all of the conditions and you will be eligible to proceed to apply for your visa at the appropriate time.

Apply for a visa

• If you have a conditional offer, you will need to email your outstanding documents. • If your offer is conditional on meeting the English language requirements, then you may want to consider a pre-sessional English course (see pages 19-20).

To accept your offer, you will need to pay a deposit towards the tuition fees. This demonstrates to the visa authorities that you are a serious student. If you are a conditional offer holder and do not meet visa conditions, we will refund this payment, with the exception of £50 which is retained as an admin fee.

Applications will be considered at any time up until the course start date, although we advise you to apply well in advance to allow plenty of time to arrange your visa, accommodation and deal with any other issues ahead of your studies in the UK.

HELP AND GUIDANCE WITH YOUR APPLICATION

Once you have accepted your offer (conditional or unconditional), you will receive an email inviting you to book accommodation online.

If you need help with your application or would like some advice on study options, you can contact us via our offices in Wolverhampton, China, Nigeria, the Middle East, South Asia and South East Asia, or Educational Advisors in your country.
