Our services Initial screening review We offer an objective, independent, third-party review of new product concepts. Valuable as part of your first stage gate assessment of risks and opportunities, a 20-point weighted matrix is utilised to calculate an attractiveness score for proposed new products.

Detailed commercial and technical review Our qualitative review of the proposed product and accompanying business case can cover market potential, routes to market, technical status, intellectual property rights and legislation requirements. This comprehensive assessment of the potential for the product is designed to help clients address their development stage gate approval questions.

Product design We offer a range of product design services aimed at both the early stages of building the business case and also the hard detail of product development, including: • Conceptual 3D modelling • Concept selection through Quality Function Deployment • Design for manufacture: - Failure Mode Effects Analysis - Setting tolerances and specifying key dimensions for successful manufacture. • Training and assessment in alternate computer aided design (CAD) programmes.
Rapid prototyping The Caparo Innovation Centre has direct access to a number of different rapid prototyping technologies, giving our clients the opportunity to check product aesthetics, fit and function. Technologies include: • Selective Laser Sintering • Direct Metal Laser Sintering • 3D printing - Fused Deposition Modelling 6
Intellectual Property Rights Protection Consideration of intellectual property rights when developing the business case is critical to successful exploitation. We have direct experience of patent applications and negotiating licence agreements which you can benefit from: • Development of IPR strategy • Preparing patent applications and pitching to potential licensees. • Guidance on negotiation of terms and conditions within a patent license agreement.
Product Testing and Stress Analysis We can support you during the product testing and validation phase through access to the University’s engineering and product testing facilities, with particular expertise in stress analysis by finite element analysis and engineering simulation.
